What I Would Do if I Were U.S. President

Well, What I Would Want to Do

Butch West
With the recent elections I thought it might be interesting to discuss what I would want to do if I were President of the United States.

Replace the Supreme Court. It is my opinion that the U.S. Supreme Court has made so many anti-American decisions, such as Kelo vs. New London and their refusal to even take more important cases such as Turner vs. Fredricksburg that they all need to be replaced.

Pro-Prayer Amendment. Seek a constitutional amendment that specifically says that people leading prayers on government property may say Christian Prayers.

Pro-Christian Amendment. Seek a constitutional amendment make Christianity the official religion of the United States. The first amendment to the constitution also says regarding religion "...nor prohibiting the free exercise thereof." This, in my opinion, has been ignored in many situations. It is my understanding that we were founded as a nation with Christian Principles and that those principles need to be restored.

Pro-Life Amendment. Abortion is essentially the murder of unborn Children and we need a constitutional amendment stating that it is and prohibiting abortion absent the clear and present danger of the mother's life.

The Fair Tax. I'd probably make some adjustments, but the fair tax is one of the best alternatives to help the poor. One of the best ways to help the poor is to put them to work. The fair tax would bring out many under ground businesses or businesses skirting the law by calling real labor "Independent Contractors. It would also help those who really are Independent Contractors.

It would help us because there would be no income tax, so no need to report to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Encourage, maybe require, a write in option: All positions open for public law in all counties and states or their equivalent (parishes) in the United States should have a write in option. I recently voted in recent election. There was one write in option, it was for Texas Governor and I wrote in a name of a candidate other than the one who qualified to be a write in candidate. Though had I known who was running and his positions at the time I voted I probably would have written his name in.

But I had 5 candidates I wanted to write in. I did early voting and was told that if I simply wrote in the names of the candidates I wanted, that my vote would not count for those candidates. I wrote them in anyway. The truth is, that elections should be the people's choice, and my chickens could probably run the government better than most people actually running for political positions.

Eliminate Party affiliations: If a candidate is affiliated with a political party, the person is often influenced by the party agenda. With Christians this can be shown. Republicans who are pro-life and believe in the rights of Christians when it comes to things like the 10 commandments are often lacking on compassion when it comes to other social issues, such as the poor. Democrats, who often support social issues regarding compassion towards the poor, have let the party agenda influence their decisions on issues like abortion and the rights of Christians to pray "in the name of Jesus" under certain circumstances. This is also true of 3rd parties, such as the Libertarians, which generally have an "everything goes" view of freedom.

Eliminating party affiliations won't eliminate all the problems associated with such things, but it should be a step in the right direction.

Eliminate no-fault divorce: No fault divorce is divorce for fun, definitely unscriptural and not ethical.

Outlaw Psychology: Secular psychology has harmed the average citizen and was founded (in my opinion) by demons. It does not really help people. Christian Counseling and Christian Psychology are not the same thing. Here is a good article in The Berean Call regarding psychology.

Require Intelligent Design to be an option in our public schools and universities: Those who are opposed to intelligent design are opposed to having a fair and balanced alternative to the false science of evolution.

This list is no where near complete, but I thought it would be an interesting agenda to have. Realistically, no president could get such a good agenda passed, because congress would get in the way.
