What Would a Playoff College Football Bracket Look Like?

The Bowl College Series (BCS) is an imperfect system that nowadays almost every person and analyst wants to be changed. This year FloridaState will go up against the number one team in the nation OhioState which went undefeated. OhioState has been number one of the polls ever since they beat the Texas Longhorns at Texas on the road in stunning fashion. OhioState showed just how good they are in their win. OhioState also went on to beat MichiganState which was rated as the second best team in the nation. In a tight game, OhioState won. Now some people feel that Michigan is getting a raw deal because they only have one loss which was to the top team in the nation, OhioState. This is my opinion: I think that MichiganState is a better team than Florida and OhioState will beat FloridaState in the national championship game by a wider margin of victory. However, MichiganState won had their shot to beat OhioState and lost and another team deserves a chance at beating OhioState.

My other thought is that if the University of Southern California had beat UCLA in their last game of the season, FloridaState would have gotten a raw deal in the process. FloridaState's only loss came to a ranked Tennessee team that was ranked in the top ten at the time in the coach's poll. FloridaState beat outstanding teams such as LSU, Florida, Arkansas, Auburn and many others. USC didn't have that many impressive victories with the only one in my opinion that was a little impressive was the victory over a much over hyped Notre Dame team that was not as good as its ranking at the time.

A playoff system would enable teams to decide who plays for the national championship on the playing field instead of leaving it up to the judgment of a computer and the opinions of college football coaches. Here is my idea for a playoff system. Take the top eight teams in the nation and form a small playoff system. Have OhioState play LSU. Have Michigan play USC and have FloridaState play BoiseState just to throw in a wild card since BoiseState did go undefeated. Have Louisville play Oklahoma. The winners will play each other in seeded fashion. Under this system only a few teams would make the playoffs and the regular season would matter. This would make it very exciting to watch and allow teams to play against each other in the match-ups that the fans want. Wouldn't you be curious to see just how good BoiseState is? Last year Utah went undefeated and had the chance to go to a bowl game and they beat Pitt. I would love to see BoiseState which would play very hard against a top team in the nation.

In the end, for this season, no matter what playoff style you use and no matter what team you put up against OhioState, the Buckeyes are just too good and too talented to be beaten this year.
