What Would it Take?

Jolynne M Hudnell
What would it take for you to notice?
A quiet hope...a daredevil stunt...
Or perhaps something in between?

If I wrote you a poem would you read it,
Would you even know it was for you
Or would the ink run dry in futility?

If I cried for you would you dry my eyes,
Or would the tears flow, a bitter torrent
Drowning me in the depths of the sea?

If I sang you a song would you listen,
Would you feel my expressions to you
Or would my heart bleed out in vain?

If I reached out would you take my hand,
Or would my grasp find ethereal clouds
As I spiraled into empty depths of despair?

What would it take? No way to know
So I continue drifting in nuanced glow
Minimized in self-imprisoned shadows.
