What a New Year's Eve! The Best

Roni ODonnell
What a New Year's Eve. My son, his wife and two children came home from New York for the holiday. I asked my daughter if her two sons could come over and spend the night which they did. So I had a house full.

All the kids had Nintendo DS games and something I never realized. They could all link to each other and compete in games. Little did I know the noise that we'd be dealing with from two six year olds, an eight and eleven year old. We popped in a movie but heard very little of it. They were involved in those games and I found that more entertaining that the movie. I snapped pictures and took some video so I will have those comical memories forever. They are so precious.

We had dinner and snacked throughout the evening. It was hard to get them away from those games. they played for hours. Please don't think that is allowed all the time. It was a freebie night for them to be spoiled.

Closer to midnight they were more wide awake than the adults. My husband had to go to bed. He reached the end since he had to work that day and was up at three in the morning. The children eventually moved to the kitchen under the table and played in the dark since we wanted to hear the television for awhile. At one point I crawled under for pictures and scared the hec out of two of them.

As time went on the adults were really ready for midnight and bed. The kids were still wide awake. I found the station showing Times Square and the big crystal ball. It was about two minutes until midnight and I yelled for the kids. I wanted a New Year hug and kiss at the turn of the year. I thought we'd have to pry them away from the games but amazingly enough they dropped the games, ran in and surrounded me.

As they started the count down on television we all joined in. I was in my glory. At the stroke of midnight I was attacked with love. It was a beginning I will never forget and for them I hope they will always remember.

When all the commotion settled we were ready for bed. I thought for sure the kids would still be too wired but they were out as soon as their heads hit their pillows. I went to bed, woke my husband up for a moment with a Happy New Year kiss and then we were both out.

Today, New Year's day we are expecting the rest of the families. I have my plans for improvements for the year but as for the beginning of 2010 I am enjoying it all and off to a good start.

May everyone be blessed with a Happy New Year as well.

This is one of the most special parts about the holidays. Time with family. Its too infrequent when we all get together, but this is the perfect time to do it & build some memories for a lifetime. : - )
