What Do Yoginis Wear? ( CONTENT NOT APPROPRIATE for CHILDREN)

Tips for People Who Follow the Yoga Lifestyle

Kady Birdwhistle
Today I was practicing the Crow pose in yoga. It is one of the hardest poses I have ever done in my entire life. However, at times my clothing seems to ride up while I am stretching out. This is a problem for us yogis and yoginis. Clothing is a big issue when it comes to stretching. How do you dress for a yoga class without looking slovenly? How do you keep yourself covered, but still uncovered enough to move and bend? Well, I am her to tell you!

Jeans are a no-no!
Do not wear jeans. Even if you have the most comfortable pair that are very worn in, jeans look sloppy and unkempt. If you must wear jeans, try to wear ones that are clean and preferably without tons of holes. Holes in some places are very inappropriate for the look you are trying to get.

Capri-stretch pants are good!
Capri stretch pants give your legs plenty of room to move. Ladies, when you are practicing your yoga poses, you want a pant that will stretch with you. Also, capri pants are shorter than normal pants. They will not get bunched up around the ankles like some regular jeans or sweats do.

Sweat shirts are a no-no!
Believe it or not, sweatshirts just look ugly! There is not a single polite thing I can say about sweatshirts. They are bulky and unattractive, not to mention the fact that they make you sweat more! In yoga, ladies, you will sweat, especially doing longer stretches! You want a type of shirt that will breathe with you as you practice your asanas.

Tank-tops are good!
Tanks tops are the best type of shirt to wear to a yoga class. These shirts should be made out of cotton. Cotton is alot more comfortable that tweed or polyester. American Eagle sells wonderful cotton tanks for about ten dollars, sometimes they are a bit more expensive. However, the tanks from American Eagle have a thing called a shelf-bra, that is a built in bra inside your shirt! So leave those bras as home, ladies, these are very comfortable shirts.

Socks are a no-no!
When you attend your yoga class or even if you stretch out at a local gym, please do not wear socks. Socks of any kind will make you look like a dork. Most people who practice the art of yoga understand that bare-feet is the way it should be. Bare-feet are alot more comfortable and ladies, you can grip your yoga mat better with bare-feet than ones with stockings.

Shawls are wraps are good!
Every lady practicing her asanas wants to look nice after she leaves her class. Shawls and wraps are an excellent way to bring color into your yoga wardrobe. Especially now that it is winter, a shawl and a wrap can be wonderful to help keep yogingis warm.

Jewelry is good and bad!
Jewelry is good and bad because all ladies doing yoga don't want their earrings ripped out. Sometimes dangly earrings can get caught and then RIP! It is better to wear smaller earrings to class. Also, when doing arm poses such as the Crow Pose and Side Crow Pose, long necklaces can hit you in the face if you are not careful. Smaller jewelry, like hemp chokers are more attractive and safe.

Thong Underwears are good!
Yes, ladies, if you practice yoga there is nothing more humiliating that a showing pantie line. If your panties show through your stretch pants, this can sometimes lead you to get laughed at. Instead of wearing regular underwears, thongs underwears are more durable and comfortable. Also, if you choose to wear thong underwears, this eliminates the embarrassing pantie line.

These are just a few simple tips on how to dress for a yoga class! Good luck and God bless!
