Whatever Happened to the American Dream?

The Vanishing Piece of the American Pie

sandra mowery
What ever happened to everyone's piece of American pie? Wasn't it our right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? What happened to our inalienable rights that cannot be taken away or transferred? Certainly today America is not what its founding fathers designed it to be. It seems that the Constitution of the United States of Americahas been clearly ignored. Big Brother is everywhere listening and watching our every move. The police and military make their presence known. Our Declaration of Independence has been compromised with enacted laws in the name of national security.

Today the American dream seems like a pipe dream. Americans are facing lost jobs, lost income, lost homes, broken families, lost insurance, lost pensions, limited social security benefits, lost investments and lost IRA's. Those who have jobs are working longer hours for less pay. Many companies have moved the retirement age into the seventies. Most people do not have enough money to retire even if they could. There was a woman in her nineties featured on the local news that went to work to make ends meet. What happened to the golden years? The mood of the American people is grim. Most people have lost everything. Many are homeless and hungry. America is facing an uncertain future.

Remember when America was the bread basket of the world. Now we can't even feed our own people. Remember when the Russian leader Nikita Khrushchev threatened America and proclaimed, "We will bury you from within."

The structure of America is caving-in because its foundation is being eroded from beneath it. America the beautiful was once self-sufficient and prosperous. Our agriculture and our industries have been moved out of this country into third world countries for the sole reason of cheaper labor and higher profits. America is being sold out from under itself. Much of America's real estate is owned by other countries and individuals outside this nation. America's financial structure is falling apart. Capitalism is collapsing. Individuals, cities, and states are bankrupt. They are all crying out for government bailouts to save them. And so more money is printed adding to the national debt passing it on to the American people via taxes. Now there is no way that trillions of dollars of debt could ever be paid back. You know this is not going to happen. Besides, there is not trillions of dollars, enough gold, or collateral to back up all the money that is continually printed.

There is hope for America and its people if they return to God and to his values. These are the same values that America was founded upon. We need to put God first in our personal and national affairs. King David followed God's counsel and obeyed it. Because he went to God first for advice and direction, he and his country were always protected and victorious. We should follow King David's example to our victory.

God bless America!
