What's it All About, AC? Conservative Censorship, that Is
"If Only Fools Are KInd, Alfie, Then I Guess It's Wise to Be Cruel"
Everyday in every way, some fringe group takes it upon itself to badger and petition to shut somebody up.
Once upon a time, if you weren't square with Mom and Apple Pie, you were called a pinko and rounded up with the rest of the usual suspects. Your life was ruined and you were shamed.
It's been done in Hollywood.
It's been done in the political arena.
It's been done on radio and with television sports reporters.
It's even been done here on AC. (Not to be confused with AP).
Turns out you can editorialize, just so long as you editorialize in agreement with the less than tolerant liberal fascists.
Speak your mind differently from the usual lock step, bumper sticker slogans that make up the majority of the opinions here, and you have them coming at you like the night of the living dead. They want to eat your brain, and spit out the contents that don't agree with them.
They come as avatars, as initials, in Captain America masks, with fake names. Usually they are pretty consistent. Because their positions can't hold up under any questioning, after one or two feeble attempts they come out swinging. They call you names, they insult you personally. They whimper, and they cry.
Which is okay.
Us big boys and girls can take it.
It's when they run to the Big Brother substitute and whine an cry and say it's unfair, and that it's hate speech, or racist -- or name your "ist" --that I have a problem.
This time the Big Brother substitute, AC, suspended a Content Producer, Michelle Williams
. She was suspended, as I see it, because she has some conservative viewpoints that don't mesh with the professional "compassionate" crowd. . AC has a right to suspend her. Or boot her off. It's their site.
In my opinion, they are practicing censorship. Why have a section for Opinions, then? If your opinions are going to get you booted.
AC makes money off of people going to pages and clicking on ads. You would think they would welcome a little controversy to get a few more pennies in the AC bank. Well, maybe they do. I notice the pages are still up.
So, what's it all about, AC?
"And if life belongs only to the strong, Alfie, what will you lend on an old golden rule?"
Life does belong to the strong, and it is the strong who can strand and take the slings and arrows from the living dead hiding in shadowland.

Post a CommentGood riddance to Richard AND Michelle. This is what happens to people who cannot handle criticism, and must resort to personal attacks and real-life threats to get their views across.
Michelle was not suspended due to her political viewpoints. She was suspended for making an overt threat. If you don't have your story straight, maybe you shouldn't run a story.
As one Baby Boomer to another I feel your weed smoking comment is more of a Baby Boomer thing than a left or right thing. No need to worry about the conservative police.
More things should end up in the weeds, Randy. And it might be a good idea to smoke those weeds and we can all mellow out. Oh, God! Did a conservative say that? I better watch out -- the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy (VRWC) will censor me and take my membership card away. I've wandered off the reservation. Dick Cheney is calling now. Let's face it, the progressives of the world hate weeds. Every lawn must be manicured and not a blade out of place. They are tending Hitler's lawn. Cowards! Cowards! Cowards!
The way I look at it is that "tolerance" has bred a whole new type of "intolerance". You are right in so many of your comments, Richard.
"He was an UGLY transvestite." Though the humor of your statement is noted, it is also an example of what I meant in my last comment. Part of that is fact and part is subjective. Those are the kind statements that run things off in the weeds, but sometimes in a good way. :)
Well said, Richard....Free speech is okay as long as you never disagree with opposing (liberal) opinions?....That doesn't sound very free to me....Disagree with her or not, Michelle had guts...and I think that if AC has such a problem with her controversial articles, then they should delete them rather than continuously trying to make more money off of them.
Randy, I will take you to task on J Edgar! I disagree with you about him only being a transvestite. He was an UGLY transvestite. Please, facts is facts.
It will be hard to make this comment without sounding like I'm singling someone out. I am not. This is a general observation. Opinion pieces without facts are usually the articles which bring such responses. Those on the left and the right look for opportunities to undermine opposing views. Opinions without facts leave one open to such comments. I would expect to be taken to task if I wrote "Karl Mark was a transvestite," but not if I wrote, "J. Edgar Hoover was a transvestite." Writing a solid, fact-backed, opinion piece may stir debate, but the debate can only be about the topic. Imaginary facts, when defended by the author, lead to such running fights. I have a couple of weakly written pieces that have horrid comment trails. I have several solid, satirical pieces where both sides agree. Just a general observation.
The evidence, Randy, is the censorship was for opinions --rather, the dislike of opinions by some. Hey, it's AC's site. But they might want to add in their TOS that opinions expressed in an article or in the posts that don't meet with the approval of the de facto editorial board of disgruntled and bitter progressives will be yanked. Simple.
