What's with All the Hate Toward Kristen Stewart?

Jade DeWitt
By now almost everyone has heard of Twilight. It has become a world wide phenomenon. The actors and actresses who portray the characters have been thrown into the spotlight in both good and bad ways.

Kristen Stewart, who plays Bella Swan, has taken the biggest hit. Fans of the Twilight series dissect her every move. From pictures to interviews, she is constantly being criticized. It has gotten completely out of hand. Who cares if she didn't smile? So what if she was a little awkward in her latest interview? That's who Kristen is. She acts no different than before the overwhelming fame brought on by Twilight.

Some people genuinely seem to hate her. Which, we all have our personal opinions on actors, movies, books ,etc. I'm not trying to say you're not entitled to them. But there have been some downright cruel things said about Kristen. I'm not even going to dignify them by repeating anything here. The girl deserves some respect.

I think Twilight, the first movie installment, could have used some improvement. The script was horrible in some parts and the computer effects where fair. You've got to remember, though, Twilight was not given a huge budget. I think everyone did the best with what they were given. Criticizing Kristen for things that were beyond her control is an injustice to actors everywhere.

Much of the criticism Stewart has received revolves around her behavior. I don't see anything wrong with it. It's obvious she is a little shy and awkward in front of cameras and large crowds, as was seen on the MTV movie awards. I myself am a shy person. If I was suddenly thrown into a world of cameras, paparazzi and crazy fans, I'd be a little awkward myself. I love her attitude that's come out more recently though. She is essentially saying that she doesn't care what anyone thinks. I can't imagine the strength it takes to do that, to just ignore everything being said.

Where did all this hostility come from though? Everyone has their little quirks. No one is perfect. We certainly have all made our share of mistakes. But all of this is irrelevant. It doesn't justify anyone putting someone down.

As time goes on you can see that Kristen Stewart has relaxed. She seems more comfortable in interviews, especially when surrounded by fellow cast members. It's time people started treating her with some respect. After all, actors are people too.
