Over the years it has become way less expensive, and much more of a common standard, to run a back ground check in some situations. As for instance, a bank. Any financial institution will require you to be subjected to a back ground check. Post office workers also have to endure a background check before given any postal job.
It does make sense though. Would you want to hire someone that may have been arrested for stealing, and put them to work around your money? I know I would appreciate being able to know that information in advance. It really does give the employer an opportunity to make a better decision in who he hires to work for him.
We just moved not too long ago, and the apartment that we were moving to required background checks on all of their potential tenants. Everyone that was going to be on the lease had to have a criminal background check prior to being able to move in.
I think this is a wonderful added measure of security. It is a very comforting feeling, knowing in advance that the people around you had to have a criminal background check done before they could move in too. This is a good way for the property owner to see exactly what type of person he may be renting to.
Background checks might also be useful for dating purposes too! I mean, usually the person you are going on a date with is a stranger, it's always a great idea to have some sort of information to go on right?
My best friend has been known to run a background check on any guy that she even the smallest interest in. She even does checks on her friends. One of the guys that she almost dated had been in trouble several times for drug charges. Turns out she didn't date him, but our co-worker did and has now lost her job, and has also chalked up a few drug charges herself.
Criminal background checks are definitely a useful tool, in today's society. You should consider it in many different situations. It is relatively inexpensive, and could save you from making a terrible decision.
