The writing, acting, and directing of the show all worked into one could make the simplest thing hilarious. It even had me laughing at a pie in the face gag. Each episode is another chapter and adventure that the two private detectives get themselves into.
Cybil Shepard is Maddie Hayes. A successful model turned P.I. who is uptight and worried about solving the case at hand to pay the bills. Bruce Willis is David Addison, and the complete opposite of Maddie. A fun loving guy who's all about good times, tequila, and women. The most important element of the series was probably the sexual tension between the two. It started out as a crush, and grew into a serious romance. Bad luck and even worse timing would always get in the way of it actually going anywhere, however. The only other relationship I can compared it to is Elizabeth Swann and Jack Sparrow.
The heroes of the show were great, as well. They weren't the "one dimensional" ones that you have all around. Each time David Addison got into a fight, you didn't know for sure that he would win. Each time Maddie was faced with a serious problem, you didn't know if she'd get through it alone. These heroes weren't perfect, and they didn't try to be. That's what made it such a "feel good" show.
Moonlighting was known for it being the first series to break the "fourth wall" and have the characters actually speak to the camera/audience. My personal favorite things about the show were the "style" and theme that it had. The smokey bars, the dark streets, alleys, the music, etc. Little things like that which make a great show perfect.
If you haven't seen "Moonlighting", then check it out at your local video store when you're bored one night. If you're an 80s fan, or just a Bruce/Cybil fan then you'll cherish the series just as I do.
