Cumbria is a hive of activity in the summer, with so many evens happening that it's impossible to cover them all! Below are some of the most fun, family-friendly events that will be appearing throughout the summer months.


Whitehaven International Festival

A yearly festival, this is a brilliant day out for everyone.

With spectacles like the Red Arrows, tall ships and celebrity chefs last year, this year promises to be even more fun. There are also performances from the likes of Boy George, Razorlight and Madness for those who enjoy their music.

The festival runs from the 17th to 19th June and is centred around Whitehaven's harbour area. The event is mostly free, but concerts require tickets. More information can be found at The Whitehaven Festival's website.

With such a wide range of activities and attractions, this is truly a festival for the whole family. Whether you like watching stunt planes, pop groups or just walking round and soaking up the sunshine and enjoyable atmosphere, this is one not to miss.

Zircus Plus

For those with a love of fantastical shows and mesmerising performers, Zircus Plus promises to be a spectacular event. Taking place over three days '" from the 15th '" 17th July '" there is plenty for everyone to do.

The Zircus International show is on both Friday and Saturday at 19:30 in The Forum, and there is also a fireworks display on the Friday evening at 21:00 in Barrow Park.

On both Saturday and Sunday during the day, Barrow Park is taken over by Zircus between 13:00 and 17:30.Also during the day on Saturday, Zircus will be on Dalton Road in the town centre from 11:00 '" 15:30.

With all of these different things going on, Zircus Plus is the event of the summer in Barrow-in-Furness.

Cumbria Guitar Show

The musically minded will appreciate this offering '" a local guitar show that rivals other national guitar shows and although under new management this year has a great history.

From demonstrations of kit and free guitar valuations to Chickenbone John's Slide Guitar Workshop , there is something for everyone here. The two main rooms of stalls hold countless treasures, with collectible guitars to drool over and any guitar accessory you could imagine on sale. The small demo room is a cosy venue to see some unique demos, whilst the main stage plays host to brilliant musicians who will get the whole room buzzing. The show is held at Rheged, near Penrith, on 28th August. Tickets are £5 on the door. Rheged is well signposted in the local area, and there are also road signs for the guitar show on the day.
