What's the Deal with Car Names?

Where Do Car Manufacturers Get These Names?

Cars have many stupid andinteresting names. Let's talk about my car: a Dodge Stratus. First of all,"dodge" refers to someone attempting to avoid something, and "stratus" is atype of cloud. So, technically, my car means that I can avoid clouds in it.Which is a lie, because I live in Ohio.Still, there is no real reason for the car manufacturers to choose those names. How about my old car: a Chevrolet Cavalier. Chevrolet has no meaning other thanit being a type of car, and Cavalier is either a knight or the act of beingarrogant. Or an arrogant knight. Trust me when I say that I felt like neitherin that car. Volkswagen Beetle actually makes sense since the car is quitesmall and insect like in appearance. Or a Jaguar since that is a fast cat.Really, Cheetah would be a better name, but maybe it just doesn't sound as coolas "jaguar" which has a [j] and [g] and the /ər/ sound which can sound eitherlike how a car engine or someone growling.
