What's Your Educational Background -- 2 Timothy 2:15

Jason Budd
For secular interviews, this is where one would talk about which school they went to and what they got a degree in. One would also take the time to give a brief synopsis of the different classes that were in their curriculum. A person's GPA may or may not come up at this time.

What about answering this question from a spiritual perspective? How would you answer this question? Would you be able to say that you are diligent in attending Bible classes? Being honest you have to say that you went to class, but that you didn't pay attention or slept through them?

When it comes to doing homework, do you prepare for Bible class? Do you go through the class hoping that you don't have to participate? Do you study materials go home with you, or are they left in the car until the next service?

"Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth." - 2 Timothy 2:15 (NASB)

Here we see value of studying, we can present ourselves approved to God, not being ashamed, because we can accurately handle the word of truth. Such a skill takes a lot of time. Someone who barely tries in their classes in college will likely have a hard time in a job where they're expected to use the things they were supposed to have learned.

How do we expect to perform well in our work for the Lord if we don't have a strong, sturdy educational background?

Another question surrounding education in interviews usually involves Continuing Education. This is where a person who maybe has a degree in a field, goes back to learn the new things going on in his or her field or to brush up on things previously learned.

"But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does." - James 1:25 (NASB)

Here we are warned about becoming a forgetful hearer. It's also communicated that we are to be effectual doers. That means that we get things done. If we don't have the knowledge, we're not going to be very effective in our jobs as Christians. Let's make sure that we engage in continuing education. We should be studying the Word of God as often as we can, so that we can do the best work possible.
