What's in the New Farmville Mystery Wings Boxes & Are the Crates Worth Buying?

Winged Mystery Boxes Deliver Birds and More to Farmville

Tamara McRill
The hottest Zynga game, Farmville, released its new Mystery Wings box early Tuesday evening. The crates hold one each of five different winged prizes; butterflies, an ostrich, white peacock, mourning doves and macaws. Three of the mystery box animals are purely decorative and two are farm animals that can be harvested.

How do I get a Farmville Mystery Wings box?

The Farmville Mystery Wings crate can be found in your market in two places - the animals and decorations section. Players should see a small brown crate with white wings and a blue ribbon. The mystery box can be purchased or sent to a friend for 16 FV cash. These items are not free gift options, but a Farmville neighbor may purchase one and send it to you.

Winged Mystery Crate Animal Details

Male Ostrich

The male ostrich found in the Mystery Wings boxes come with 400 XP. This bird can be collected from daily and rotates like other Farmville animals. This ostrich's unique feature is that he literally puts his head in the sand (see third picture). The male ostrich can be sold for 2,000 FV coins.

White Peacock

Farmville's new white peacock is a ghostly version of the peacock found in the last animal mystery boxes. This bird comes with 400XP, rotates and can be collected from. The white peacock doesn't do any nifty tricks like the ostrich and can also be sold for 2,000 FV coins.

Mourning Doves

The mourning doves are a darker gray version of the previously released doves. The Mystery Wings gift item comes with 200 XP. Like most decorative Farmville birds, one mourning dove can be commanded to fly in a tight circle. The mourning doves do not rotate, but can be stored like any other Farmville decoration. These doves can be sold for 1,000 FV coins.

Macaw

The Macaw sits on a branch and comes with 500 XP. This decorative bird cannot fly, rotate or be collected from. The Macaw does occasionally flap its wings. The Macaw can be sold for 2,500 FV coins.

Butterfly Bush

The butterfly bush arrives with 150 XP. This circular bush with white and pink flowers features seven colorful butterflies. The butterflies are animated and constantly fly over and around the shrub. This Farmville Mystery Wings crate item is also decorative and can be stored. The butterflies can be sold for 750 FV coins.

Are the Farmville Mystery Wings boxes worth buying?

The Winged Mystery boxes worth depends on the individual player. If you are looking for a specific prize or want to collect all five, it can get expensive. It took me eleven tries and 176 FV cash to collect all five possible gifts. This is in the neighborhood of $30 in real U.S. dollars. That amount could have easily purchased bigger Farmville market items, like the chateau, lake and pink gazebo.

Purchasing the mystery boxes under the decoration or animal tabs won't narrow down your chances either. I purchased my first animal under decorations and received a male ostrich. The next seven were bought under the animal tab. In order, they were the white peacock, butterflies, male ostrich, mourning doves, butterflies, white peacock and a male ostrich.

After receiving two peacocks and three ostriches, I figured I had found all the possible Mystery Wings box gifts. Then I saw a picture of a macaw. My last three attempts were made under the decorations tab. Here I received the mourning doves, a male ostrich and my coveted macaw.

Another thing to consider before purchasing a Farmville Mystery wings crate is if you will like what you get. Since the gifts vary in experience points, you may feel cheated if you open up a butterfly bush and dislike it. You will have gained only 150 XP and can only sell it for 750 coins. This is less than half of the XP or resale value of the white peacock, macaw or male ostrich.

The Farmville Mystery Wings box is only available for seven days, not including Tuesday evening. Farmers have only one week to decide if they want to gamble hard earned or purchased FV cash on a prize.

Interesting-I would love to know how to earn FV points. I will never pay real money for them so I guess that answers whether or not I will get the winged box.
Too bad-some of the things sound cool.
