Although I'm frugal when it comes to hanging my items, I believe that spending a bit more money on better hangers is the answer to keeping clothes off of the floor. Sounds simple? Perhaps, but perhaps it's time to see what is available on the market. It took a couple hundred hangers to realize what's really important in a hanger.
For most people a hanger is just a hanger but for a fashionista or someone who really takes pride in their clothing times a perfect hanger is another accessory. There are many types of hangers available but which is the best for you is going to be a personal preference
Plastic
Plastic hangers can be found in nearly any retail store and are the cheapest form of hangers you can purchase. The options are round or flat, smooth or notched and may have clips in order to hang your pants. Whether you want the cheaper version remember that not all plastic hangers are created equal. Some versions are far more sturdy than others and there may be a difference in size which can change the way your clothes hang on the hanger and in the closet.
Metal
As an average consumer you'd be surprised that even metal hangers aren't just as simple as being metal hangers. There are several versions made in chrome and aluminum and either of these metals are available with a vinyl cover to prevent slipping and puckering.
Satin Padded
Satin padded hangers are pretty and very romantic looking as far as hangers go, and work well with lingerie and robes. You can find these in different colored satin and often is embellished with bows or flowers.
Wooden
Wooden hangers are aesthetically pretty but use the most space on a hanging bar especially if you are using a specialty suit hanger. Though they use quite a bit of space the wooden hangers allow for more room between each garment and keeps clothes from being mashed in the closet.
Besides typical natural wooden hangers you can find it in a wide variety of colors such as espresso, walnut, cherry, and in specialty woods such as cedar and bamboo.
Velvet
Velvet hangers hit the stores several years ago and are very popular. This hanger has a thin body that's covered in velvet which nearly eliminates slipping.
