What's He Going to Say About You?

Daily Devotion for May 27, 2008

Luke 12:8 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God.

Living next door to Angie and Anthony for several years, Mike and I grew really close to the couple. Their daughter and my girls are like sisters. Last night, as we sat around the table with them at dinner, the kids chattering at one end, and the adults at the other, I realized how much I missed Angie's friendship since we moved to Hot Springs, especially when we began to laugh.

It wasn't long before the laughter had turned into poking fun at the guys and the kids, recalling stories from years past...some of them filled with memories, some of them filled with embarassment. Especially for poor Lauren, whose new boyfriend was with us for the first time. "Mom, you promised no embarassing stories." She said as she turned about 4 shades of red at something Anthony said. "Oh no, go ahead. I wanna hear all of them" said Chris. This netted him a glare from Lauren and laughter from the parents. The more stories we told, the more Angie and I giggled, and the redder Lauren got..then the Dad's got involved, and it all went downhill from there.

As Lauren and I talked quietly on the way home from Little Rock, the talk as it quite often does, turned to music. About 12 years ago, Point of Grace had a song on one of their albums called "What's He going to Say about Me?" The chorus says:

What's He gonna say about me
When He weighs the works that
I have done
Against the words that I have
Failed to speak
What's He gonna say about me
When the chaff is sifted from the wheat
Will there be evidence that I believed
What's He gonna say about me

As worried as Lauren was about what Angie and I had revealed about her young adolescence, more importantly is what Christ will reveal about her whole life when she stands before the throne, And my life...and Angie's....and yours. What will He say about you? If you ask yourself that question every day...would it make a difference in the way you live? In your Christian walk? In the way you witness to those around you? If it would...then perhaps it should be our prayer for each new day.
