What's Hot for Autumn/Winter 2008

Katie Palmer
Do you always buy all the glossy magazines on the newsstand every month? Do you lust over the latest "it" bag or luxury designer item? You are not alone! If you are someone (like me) who just cannot wait to know what the next trend is, then you must read this guide to what's hot for 2008.

IN! Winter florals are huge at the moment. Luckily, high street stores have picked up on this trend, so you won't have to spend hundreds of dollars on something designer (unless you want to, of course!) The difference with Winter florals - compared with Summer florals - is that they are much bolder in design and color. Any print goes, and many designers have been using large prints in bold colors. For example, summer prints were more kitsch and ditsy, whereas winter ones are tending to be bright vivid colours on darker backgrounds.

IN! The Up-Do. Next season, it is officially the only way to wear your hair! Up is the new down! If you only know how to put your hair in a high pony-tail, you are missing out. There are so many cute clips and grips in stores, that you are sure to find some you like. The ultimate invisible hair ties are by Blax - they look like rubber bands, but they don't snag your hair. The come is great hair-colored hues, too. Simply pin your hair up and you're good to go!

IN! Structured bags. This season, bags have to be structured, lady-like and very sophisticated. For inspiration, just look at the new range of Alexander McQueen and Burberry bags. The handles should just sit in the crook of your elbow (not over the shoulder) and worn proudly. You want people to know you're carrying a fabulous bag! Anything slouchy is out!

IN! The Lean-Legged Boot-Cut. This is the hottest trouser shape for Autumn/Winter. This shape is so flattering and is ideal if you want to show off all your hard work at the gym! This shape is tapered at the thigh, hugs the knee and then flares outwards down to the ankle. The boot-cut at the bottom is perfect for covering ballet pumps and trainers, yet they are nice and fitted at the top. Think Victoria Beckham and the jeans she tends to wear. Team your trousers or jeans with a nice fitted tunic-style top and you are all set! High-waisted is out!

IN! Jewel tones. Richer shades have replaced summer's brights as the new color palette. Colors to look out for are purple, emerald, yellow and inky blues. Whichever shade you choose, it will be perfect for brightening up those dreary winter days. Don't be afraid to mix these colors up - they will look fabulous when worn all together!
