What's in a Name? Destiny
Do You Know What Your Name Means? Do You Believe Your Name Dictates Your Destiny?
By any other word would smell as sweet."
So, I'm currently reading "Reallionaire." And I'm only twenty pages in, but I'd recommend it to all of your out there. I believe this little guy was living in the projects, and made his first million by the time when he was sixteen maybe. SIXTEEN! Raised by a single mother, and I think she had five kids. He didn't make his money rapping or being an athlete. Which is tremendous for a young black guy, because believe me, those are the only fields you get positive reinforcement in some places. But if you talk about carrying a briefcase, wearing a suit, and being a 21st Century CEO, people will tell you to "stop daydreaming."
Beside the point. In the first chapter, he says you should find out what your name means. Ask your parents why they named you "... whatever the hell it is they named you." He says there is power in the name. There is destiny in the name.
I've done the legwork for you. The worthwhile sites I've utilized are:

Brent Maurice McKibben
Why was I named Brent? Because my dad, lost his family while he was young. His dad died in an automobile accident when he was two. His mother died of cancer when he was thirteen. He went and lived with relatives, but there was an age difference, and of course an odd adjustment for him. So I was named for his cousin, Brenda. After he lost his mom, Brenda was his best friend, his rock, his confidant. Hence I was Brent.
My middle name is Maurice.
Well guess what the websites told me about my name?
BRENT
Gender:
Male
Root:
BRENTON
Origin:
Old English
Meaning:
A Steep Hill
-Well, I'm gonna assume the Steep Hill means I can oversee, far into the future, or trends, or recognize things to come. It's about clarity and vision.
MAURICE
Gender:
Male
Origin:
Latin
Meaning:
Dark Skinned
-Dark Skinned, well duh.
MCKIBBEN Surname Origin
(Origin Celtic) From Mac, son, and Ceobbinn, the top of the hill.
It's funny how my last name reiterates the meaning of my first name. Top of the hill = Visionary.
Lastly, one of those damn sites described me to a T. Based off only my first and middle name.
The name BRENT gives you a strongly independent and highly creative nature, with drive and ambition to have experiences and accomplish things out of the ordinary.
Obstacles to your progress or restrictions on your freedom to act create a sense of frustration which may cause you to feel resentful and even rebellious.
Although the name MAURICE creates idealism and the urge to help others, we emphasize that it limits self-expression and friendly congeniality with a moody disposition.
# The name of MAURICE gives you a very idealistic nature.
# Your desire for peace and harmony causes you to withdraw from situations where there is friction and acrimony.
# You are quite reserved and inclined to feel sensitive and self-conscious, even though you strive to appear poised and confident.
# Being rather secretive in many ways, and not liking people to pry into your affairs restrict opportunities for friendship; not until you feel you can trust others do you open up to them.

Post a CommentGood read. Although my name is unique and difficult to pronounce it may or may not get me in the door, but it ultimately is up to me to break down the stereotypes once I'm in.
