What's Next: The Day After Yesterday

America's Tomorrow is Now: America's Sea Change

Michael K. Miller
What's next for tomorrow's America is happening now. The next what is a sea change washing away yesterday's once known, assumed, and given artifacts of America the nation, America the people, and America the political, economic, and social systems.

A sea change is upon America. Profound transformations are surging over us.

Master the swells, ride the breakers onto the new shore - or drown. Survive, indeed excel within and upon, the waves of this sea change, or disappear beneath the rising crests. Do, go, be: live, propagate, prosper - or die.

America is changing. As a nation, as a people, as a political system, as an economic system, as a social system, America is changing. It is too late in the development of change to reverse, deflect, or block the sea change.

When the changing of America commenced is irrelevant. Why the changing of America is in progress is moot. Acknowledgment, rather than denial, is required. Action, rather than inaction, is essential.

The Sea Change of America, the "What's Next," is not a mere paradigm shift or rearrangement of moral, demographic, political, economic, and/or social elements into a different configuration. The Sea Change of America rolls beyond the boundaries of New York City, beyond the limits of media, and beyond the edges of The Internet. Cities and city-states; visual, audio, and digital creativity; and the dynamics of communications are flotsam in the swell sweeping over a transitory and degenerating Faux Nuevo Quo.

We are at a black hole between the universes of what was and still is and what is becoming and what must be. What's next is a new birth of American spirit and American purpose and American direction in the Second American Revolution. What's next is the Second Coming of the American Renaissance.

You, the individual, are the only actor of any account or importance. The individual is the highest form, the greatest link to eternity. And you, the individual, have control over who you are, what you are, and when you are. The single greatest creation is the individual. The single greatest force is the collective resolve of individuals committed to a common ground of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness: freedom.

"Everything was driving anyhow to anywhere at a steadily increasing velocity." - H.G. Wells

Gone are the heady times of myopic, self-indulgent hedonism. Gone is the oppressive omniscience of intrusive, other-centered globalization.

Set yourself free from the bondage of group thinkers and belief spinners telling you what to think, what to believe, what to do, and how to be. The yesterdays of masses, crowds, and mindless groupthink are passé, defunct, mort. What's next is you. Tomorrow is you.

The Sea Change of America is here, now. Embrace your personal opportunity and celebrate your personal challenge to surf the waves of sea change to your future. You were born. You will die. In your life, what's next? You, the individual, are next.

This is inspiring though the juxtaposition of venerating the individual and honoring the collective is subject to disparate interpretations, even potentiallyleading right back to the rejected selfishness and following the group mentality.

This is profound, inspiring and frightening all at the same time. I am still deciphering what I think of the present and our path. I feel like universalism is being pushed and accepted. Individualism is good but can turn selfish and harmful...especially in a volatile climate. I guess we can only do our part and account for ourselves. Thanks for contributing positively Michael.

I love the whole "Tomorrow is you" focus. If tomorrow you could do anything you wanted...what would that be? What are you waiting for?
Decide today to just start doing it? Sea change = see change : ) Great piece!

An exceptionally gifted writer strives to get his readers "thinking". This would be an example of perfection. Another great piece Michael, I've forwarded this to my more "intelligent" friends. :)
