Looking into the Crystal Ball After Wrestlemania XXVI

Jeff D Gorman
Wrestlemania XXVI was a landmark event that changed the course of many wrestlers' careers. Let's look at who's moving up; who's moving down, and who is moving out.

JACK SWAGGER

"The All-American American" captured the Money in the Bank briefcase at Wrestlemania and cashed it in on Smackdown to beat Chris Jericho for the World heavyweight championship.

This immediately shakes up the Smackdown scene and gives Swagger potential championship opponents in Rey Mysterio, John Morrison, Kane, R-Truth, and The Undertaker.

WWE needs to talk more about Swagger's amateur wrestling background (a la Kurt Angle) to show us why he is special enough to win Money in the Bank and the World title

SHEAMUS

Even though the first Irishman to hold the WWE title lost at Wrestlemania to Triple H, he got right back on "The Game" one night later by attacking HHH on Raw.

Sheamus has three big popular targets - HHH, Randy Orton, and John Cena - to go after on Raw, and if he keeps fighting them for the rest of the year, he could pick up his second WWE title.

JOHN CENA and UNDERTAKER

Call it right now: these two will battle in the main event of Wrestlemania 27. I can't think of anyone else who could possibly pose a realistic threat to Undertaker's perfect Wrestlemania record, which now stands at 18-0.

Cena is running out of challengers on Raw. He has beaten just about everyone. If Batista doesn't regain the title, WWE may have to bring CM Punk or Chris Jericho over from Smackdown.

JOHN MORRISON

Many fans thought Morrison would have a big night at Wrestlemania. However, he was not in the Money in the Bank match. Instead, he teamed with R-Truth to lose a tag team title match against The Big Show and The Miz.

Morrison needs to turn heel. It just fits his personality better. Melina could do the same thing. I'm not saying they need to team up with Joey Mercury again as MNM (although I'd love to see it), but Morrison needs to target popular stars like Rey Mysterio and Edge to boost his career.

TED DiBIASE and CODY RHODES

They couldn't beat Randy Orton nor each other in the triple threat at Wrestlemania XXVI. The best thing to happen to both guys would be to be separated from Orton in the WWE draft.

DiBiase is often touted as a future superstar, while Rhodes doesn't always get that type of hype. They need to break away from each other, too like Morrison and the Miz to see who comes out on top.

SHAWN MICHAELS, BRET HART, and VINCE McMAHON

I think Shawn Michaels (unlike Ric Flair) is serious about never wrestling again after losing his career threatening match.

However, we've probably see Bret Hart and Vince McMahon in the ring for the final time, too.

Bret scored his big win, and that is the perfect sendoff for Vince's "evil boss" character, which began when Bret lost the title in the infamous Montreal Screwjob in 1997.

FINALLY, WHO'S NXT?

We recently learned that the winner of the WWE NXT show on Sci-Fi will get a title shot against the champion of his choice on a pay-per-view.

Wade Barrett, David Otunga, and Skip Sheffield all look like they belong on the Raw or Smackdown roster.

However, Daniel Bryan is going to win NXT, and beat his own mentor, The Miz, for the US title. He's one of the best wrestlers of his time, and he is just getting started in WWE.

Swagger needs to be presented differently from Angle. Angle came to the WWF and preached about the three I's. Swagger needs to continue with the cockey jock character in order to not be viewed as a Kurt Angle clone. I think WWE hit the nail on the head with the segments on Smackdown following his title win that included interrupting The Hart Dynasty's interview, taunting Shelton Benjamin, waiting for congratulations from Tony Atlas and exchanging pleasentries with Vickie Guerrero.
