What's Next for Kevin Eubanks?

Now that He Has Left the Tonight Show What is Next on His Career

Mike Spain
The AP News reported "bandleader Kevin Eubanks after 18 years backing up host Jay Leno" is leaving the Tonight Show. The question is what's next for the 52 year old guitarist? The article stated "exiting with Eubanks will be the other five members of the Tonight Show Band."

Solo Career

Besides spending the 18 years as Jay Leno's bandleader and sidekick Kevin has been able to create some music. Eubanks does have several albums available on iTunes. He also has five tour dates listed on his website. His dates include gigs in San Antonio, St. Louis, Gettysburg, and West Studio City, California. It is possible the band grew tired of the television show gig and wanted to concentrate on new musical projects and creativity which the television gig did not offer.

Other Motives

The articles states Kevin "insisted the recent turmoil had played no part in his decision." However, it could have something to do with it. It could be the time is just right to make a move. The health of a family member or a member of the band or their family could play a role. It could also be the band was feeling burnt out in their current role. The band could have left knowing Kevin's replacement would bring their own band. All pure speculation as the exit was handled in a professional manner. Plenty of notice and the show did bid them farewell.

Starting Over

Kevin Eubank and his band will start a new chapter in their lives now that they have left the Tonight Show. Likewise, Jay Leno will be starting over with a new band. The article states Kevin "will be replaced by former "American Idol" music director Rickey Minor." Rickey Minor will be bringing his new band. So, after a week of reruns Jay Leno will return to the Tonight Show with a new band and a new sidekick.
