What's Your Price?

This morning I was listening to the Jack Riccardi Show on radio station KTSA-550 A.M. based out of San Antonio, Texas. One of Mr. Riccardi's guest was the owner of a dating website called What's Your Price?

The principle (if there is one) is that everyone has a price. This article gives you an opinion of this website and the people who join it. First, I am not against dating websites. I've got my own profile on a dating website called Date Hook Up.

Some women use to ask me what my price was. My answer was that my price is love. What that means is that I want someone who is serious about a relationship, agrees with my Christian principles, can accept me warts and all (As Clyde Bessent use to say), and wants a genuine marriage that will last a lifetime.

The dating website called What's Your Price takes advantage of very shallow people. The people who join this website have absolutely no desire for a genuine relationship, they are willing to buy and sell themselves. The only choices they have are "generous" (aka "I'm willing to pay for you.") or 'attractive" (aka "I will sell my good looks to you."). What those choices mean to someone like me is that I'm more about looks than deep down beauty and I will sell those looks for the love of money.

Unfortunately, this world emphasizes the love of money and looks. There is nothing wrong with either having money or looking good, but to place an emphasis on it is, in my opinion, nothing short of evil.

One of the reasons, I think, the church leadership ought to get more involved in the dating and relationship aspects of Christian Singles is because if they don't, then we will often, in a sense, have no choice but to seek help from secular sites like eHarmony, Match.com, DateHookUp, and What's Your Price.

Scripture is not silent on relationships, and I do think every church, if possible, should have a Singles Ministry, but there is an aspect of the social club part that involves the ministers actually doing a true social ministry. The 24^th chapter of Genesis is excellent place to begin helping people are looking for relationships, there are principles found in this chapter about relationships. Isaac needed help finding a wife, and Abraham sent someone to fetch a wife for Isaac. God sent an angel ahead of him, and behold a willing wife was found. God got involved, but so did humans outside the husband and wife. Neither Isaac nor Rebecca sought out the other on their own. Parents, siblings, preachers and deacons should gain some insight into helping people seeking help-mates from this fact.

I sometimes wonder what would of happened if Rebecca, who was clearly God's choice for Isaac had said no and been unwilling to go back with the servant. I think sometimes God sends us his choice for us and either we reject them or they reject us or both.

God looks on the inside, at the heart, of us humans, humans look on outward appearances. Dating's primary and only goal should be marriage. Otherwise it is a form of adultery.

"Such [is] the way of an adulterous woman; she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness." Prov. 30:20 (American King James Bible).

Prov. 30:20 (quoted above) is, in my opinion, a description of American style dating. Genesis 2:18 makes it clear that the woman (wife) is suppose to be a help-mate to her husband.
