Lately it seems as though every celebrity is releasing a tell-all book. Even if it's not the celebrity, it's somebody related to or that associated with the celiebrity. Is this the new trend? Remember when it used to be safe to have secrets? Remember when you could trust you family even if you couldn't trust your friends? Let's hope you remember because all of that now is just that, a MEMORY! Those days no longer exists as tell-all books are being completed for release every month. Penning tell-all books seems to be a lot of individuals "claim to fame" whether it's good or bad publicity. With the release of tell-all books, unknown individuals are able to "piggy back" celebrities and make a name for their selves.
Take the highly talked about "Confessions of a Video Vixen" by Karrine "Superhead" Steffans, she changed the whole face of hip hop and entertainment in 2006 by reveling "behind closed doors" secrets .about celebrities. She spoke in detail of the actions and intentions of A-list stars and even went as far as to "name names". Feeling the need to follow this trend to expose A-list celebrities, author Terrance Dean plans to drop his tell-all book titled "Hiding in Hip Hop: On the Down Low In the Entertainment Industry-From Music to Hollywood" May 13th 2008.
Terrance, who is a gay man, plans to tell on how he went from intern to executive in the entertainment industry and also plans to list numerous stars by name who are on the "down low"(gay). In an industry such as hip hop, where reputation and image depends on everything, a book like this could literally destroy the careers and families of entertainers.
In the above section when I said "everybody and their mama" is dropping a tell-all book, I aint' lie! Mothers of stars such as Kanye West, Britney Spears, Eminem and others have all released tell-all books either based on their own lives or the lives of their celebrity children. But it doesn't stop there, celebrity ex's and spouses have even hopped aboard the bandwagon to pen books. Take the self proclaimed "King of R&B" (Rocks & Blunts), Bobby Brown, in his upcoming tell-all book titled "Bobby Brown: The Truth, The Whole Truth and Nothing But..." he speaks on how being married to singer Whitney Houston drove him to do drugs, yeah right! Cocaine is a "hellava" drug and with statements like that floating around, one really begins to question the "truthfulness" of a book.
Even Britney Spears' ex husband K-Fed plans to release a tell-all book about the life he's had to endure since meeting the pop star. Are the things mentioned in these books based on facts or hype though? Maybe these authors are telling the truth.....their truth! There are two sides to every story and with just one side displayed, who really knows the "truth" besides the participants involved?
In an industry such as entertainment, it appears most celebrities stick by the rule of "fake it till you make it." Basically meaning, do whatever you have to do to get to the top. Just as celebrities stick by this rule, people associated with celebrities now play the game with the same rule. With every tell-all book that's released, it seems to go farther and farther past the barrier. So what's next? What will be the next BIG secret that rattles the industry? Only time will tell, until then.......Read between the lines!

Post a CommentWell, personally, MNM, I must confess that I agree with Karrine Steffans statement to the effect that if anyone is upset because their name is in her book, maybe they shouldn't have been doing what they were doing. So, in other words, if you don't want to see your name in an embarrassing and scandalous tell-all book, don't do anything you don't want to read about someday. LOL!!! As for the tell-all gay book, doesn't it strike anyone the least bit odd that gay or bi folks whose families don't know their persuasion expect anyone to become complicit in their deceptions?
Great article! I love to read and will read just about anything, but I stay far away from "tell all" books. They just don't sit well with me.
Great article. On the whole, we will always be obsessed with what's is going on in the Red Carpet world. I think that they system is designed to occupy us with the crap...we can't weed through reality and see what's really going on in the world. Thanks again for a great article.
Tell all books and reality tv shows have gotten out of hand.
I am so glad I am not a celebrity.
Excellent article.. While there are some celebrity books out there that do reveal amazing details, others seem to be no more than a justification or excuse for behavior that can't be blamed on someone else - but that doesn't keep the celeb from trying to revise history and hope the public will buy it. I have to say that sometimes it actually works which is why they keep trying..in my opinion.
I have noticed this trend and it is rather disturbing. And I agree with you that Terrance Dean's book is likely to mess up several celebrities' personal and professional lives. I guess another question would be, "Why do people read these books?" Have celebrities been built up to the point where we want their mistakes and flaws to be more apparent, just so we'll know that they're human? Or has society as a whole developed a soap opera mentality, constantly searching for the latest gossip and scandal? Maybe it's a little bit of both.
Yeah it's definitely a shame that people just keep on keepin on selling their soul for a buck, as well as ransoming the souls of others along the way, I guess deceit and trickery becomes an addictive drug, once you take a hit you can't quit......trust and believe every dog has it's day....and God is not a God that will be mocked...every man/ woman will reap what they sowe. Everything in life has a price...you either pay it up front or on the back end, but it will be paid in full. ........Great article...peace to you!!!
This is a fantastic article! The only solution is to not become famous so you don't become infamous. =)
Tell all books are always funny. I don't really believe half the stuff in them personally. Another great article.
