What’s the Rush?

A Slug’s Anthem

David A. Reinstein, LCSW

Ever so slowly
So as not to trip over
The self;
Ever so carefully
So as not to fall off
The shelf.
Ever so quietly
So as not to awaken
A hungry predator;
Ever so spell-checked
So as not to insult
The critical editor.

Taking the time
As though time could taken
Then somehow
Secretly saved;
Slipping onward in slime
With all beauty forsaken
Each moment and eon,
Each micron and inch
Forever deliberately shaved.

By rumbling earth shaken
To embrace the mistaken
Notion that quick
Is always preferred;
The slug knows no wealth
And moves always in stealth
Coming in first
Is a value deferred.

    i like slow and steady.... well, at least when my kids will let me slow down and stay slow!

    The great thing about going slower is that you'll get there, and probably with much less mishap on the way.

    Slugs are never in a hurry, we should take a page from their book.

    This is often true though perhaps not for a race horse.
