Justin Bieber initially began circulating on YouTube back in 2007, slowly developing a following and a fan base and eventually racking up over ten million page views based on word of mouth alone. Bieber entered a local singing contest in his hometown of Stratford, Ontario several years ago and managed to take second place. It was after this that Bieber began placing videos of himself singing on YouTube to share with family and friends. The funny thing about YouTube is that it isn't just friends and family that end of watching the videos. It's people from every corner of the globe that have internet access that watch as well. People liked what they saw and heard and began subscribing to him on YouTube and spreading the word via Twitter and other social networking sites as well as word of mouth. Scott "Scooter" Braun, who runs entertainment and marketing company SB Projects, took notice of Bieber and signed on to be his manager. Not long after Braun flew Bieber to Atlanta to meet pop star Usher as well as other industry insiders, a bidding war took place between Usher and Justin Timberlake, who both wanted to sign him to their labels.
In October of 2008 Justin Bieber officially signed with Island Records and recorded his debut album "My World" which had production involving The Dream and Tricky Stewart, who had also produced Rihanna's hit single Umbrella as well as Beyonce's smash hit Single Ladies. With a production engine like that standing behind him, it was clear that Justin Bieber had everything that he needed to propel him to pop super stardom.
Justin Bieber sings about things that appeal to tweens and teens-puppy love, breakups, general teen drama. These are the things that sell CD's and inspire crushes amongst his followers. Bieber's followers have most certainly gotten him to the place he is today and that connection keeps them coming back for more.
It will be interesting to see how Justin Bieber evolves and where he goes from here. Entertainment industry insiders have compared him with the likes of Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder.
Whether or not you find Justin Bieber entertaining or appealing, it's highly likely that you will be hearing his name for years to come-especially if you have a teenage daughter in the house.

Post a CommentI heard the name, but just seen him sing on American Idol this past week. I asked my daughter when she got home "How old is this kid, 13?" lol I think she said he's 15? He's got an amazing voice for someone his age.
:)! rcj
I had that same thought Becca. I wondered what my parents must have thought when my brother and I got caught up in one musical craze or another while we were growing up. I guess all teenagers do it.
I had never heard of him until he was on Leno or Letterman last week, and I just wondered.... 'why?' I think this must have been how my parents felt when New Kids on the Block first came out. I just don't get it.
It will be interesting to see what happens with him over time.
I looooove Justin Bieber!!! (And I'm someone's mom, btw!) He looks like such a sweet kid and his voice is amazing.
I just heard about this kid about 2 months ago and now he's everywhere.
