What's New in Video Games: First Week in August

From Tutles in the Half Shell to the End of the World.

With the start of August, the last days of summer are in effect. Soon enough it will be fall and the leaves with start to turn. In the world of video games the fall is the most exciting time because it tends to be when the best games come out so that they are fresh and new for the holiday system. Of course that is still months away. So what are gamers suppose to do until then? Well thankfully for you the big game companies want you to play and buys games all year long and as fall comes closer they want you to remember just why you spent so much money on their expensive system. Sure the games coming out are not the greatest of all time but there is still decent content being releases as we finish out the third quarter. Here are my top five new releases for the first week in August.

5) Releases on X-Box Live on August 5th: TMNT: Turtles in Time ReShelled

When this game came out at the arcade I knew I was going to loose a lot of quarters to it. Sure by then I was not even a huge TMNT fan but the game looked like to much fun to pass up. So I started it up and sure enough after shedding many quarters I had made it all the way though the game. Now X-Box live is offering me that experience as an affordable download. Sure I have played this game before many times but it's really cool to see it out there again and with a new graphics overhaul so that it's prettier than I remember it.

4) Releases on the Wii August 4th: Real Heroes: Firefighters

Sure this game sounds likes something you would find in a 5$ game bin when looking for a gift to give your seven year old nephew for his birthday party. I will admit it is an unfortunate name but behind the name is a game that just might be really cool. It is in essence a first person shooter except that instead of blasting aliens you're trying to put out fires. Like almost every first person that has come out for the Wii its all going to come down to control but if the game gets it right I guarantee it will be a fun little game.

3) Releases on the Wii August 4th: Phantom Brave: We Meet Again
(www.nisamerica.com/games/phantombravewii/)

This game is a port from the Playstation so it's very possible that some of you have played this very tight, complex and lovely role-playing game before. If you have, it might not be worth the money to buy the Wii version even if there have been some small tweaks including graphics. Still if you have never gotten to play this game than I would highly suggest picking it up. It was one of the most under-rated RPGs that came out on the Playstation and now you can have the joy of playing it on your Wii where good RPGs can sometimes be hard to find.

2) Releases on PC August 3rd: Fallen Earth
(www.fallenearth.com)

I always get a little bit excited when a new massive online role-playing game hits the shelves. You never quite know what you're going to get. It might be a boring rehash of Everquest or it might be its own amazing new thing. Fallen Earth has got me excited because it reminds me of one of my more recent addictions, Fallout 3. Except this game takes place in what is left of the Grand Canyon where the rest of humanity is struggling to survive. There are six factions in the game and a whole big world to explore. If you are looking for a new massive to get sucked up into, now might be the time.

1) Ready to download on X-Box 360 August 3: Fallout 3 Mothership Zeta

Speaking of Fallout 3 there is a new expansion coming out in the first week of August for this amazing role playing game. This time around the beacon from a ship in space leads to an adventure away from the wastelands of the east coast and up into the mothership. Once there you will meet other folks who have been abducted from the past of Fallout and from the earth that was. It should be a fun addition to an already highly addictive game and if you're like me you are always happy to see more content for this game.
