What's the Worst Boxing Nickname?

Darryl Dunnaway
While some professional boxers have great nicknames like "Iron" Mike Tyson, "The Greatest" Muhammad Ali, and "Smokin" Joe Frazier, not all do. After all, not everyone can be "The Italian Stallion". But the following professional boxers may make you wonder what they could have been thinking when they came up with these oddball nicknames.

So here's my choice of the worst boxing nicknames.

5. "Butterbean" Eric Esch

Butterbean whose trademark bald head, intimidating scowl, and wearing of American Flag trunks was an entertaining fighter whose professinal boxing record stands at 77-7-4 with 58 knockouts. Known as the "King of 4 rounders", Butterbean recently retired after a loss on October 3, 2009 to Harry Funmaker, whom he had previously beaten twice. Butterbean's son Brandon, "Babybean", recently lost his own professional boxing debut in March 2009, the same night that Butterbean experienced his last win of his professional boxing career. Butterbean now resides and owns a resturant, Mr. Bean's BBQ, in Jasper, Alabama.

4. Nate "The Galaxxy Warrior" Campbell

This former unififed WBA, IBF, and WBO lightweight champion recently made the decision to move into the 140 pound Junior Welterweight division after losing his titles due to his inability to maintain his weight. His professional boxing record currently stands at 33-5-1 with 25 knockouts.

3. Oliver "The Atomic Bull" McCall

The Atomic Bull, while being a pretty good boxer, may be best known for his breakdown in his 1997 rematch against Lennox Lewis. After being frustrated in the third round, he dropped his hands and began crying in the fourth and fifth rounds causing the referee to stop the fight and award Lewis the victory.

2. Scott "The Pink Cat" Walker

The Pink Cat is best known for his slicked back hair and pink boxing trunks, and of course, beating hall of famer Alexis Arguello in 1995 ending Arguello's try at a comeback. He is also another boxer who had a breakdown in the ring, crying after his loss by knockout to another hall of famer, Julio César Chávez in 1996.

1. Owen "What The Heck" Beck

What The Heck definitely earns his number one spot with his nickname that not only rhymes, but is also a sentence. Originally from Jamaica, Beck has recently returned to boxing after a 19 month break and has won his last two fights by decision. His record currently stands at 29-3-0 with 20 knockouts.
