What's Wrong with Saying VAGINA?

Why Such a Reaction?

Emerald L.
A private High School in an affluent town of Westchester County New York was performing the "Vagina Monologues". Three junior girls were asked not to say the work 'Vagina' at the 'open mike' night, which was going to be attended by students 9th grade to 12th grade, parents, teachers and siblings of the high schoolers. When the girls got to the stage and took over the mike, they read a verse from the 'Vagina Monologues' and verbally said the work that they were told not to say by the Principal and administration...Vagina.

So these girls got suspended for intentionally being insubordinate. Now these girls want sympathy for being suspended. They feel that people should be proud to know that women have vagina's and that we women should embrace our vagina's and feminity. They are delusional and think this is a time to exercise free speech and the freedom to use words like Vagina shouldn't be censored.
What a bunch of crap.

First, I have a problem with any Elementary or High School allowing the performance of this type...a performance based around the female and her Vagina. Secondly, schools are one of the last places parents can expect wholesome, 'G-Rated' material to be shown to their children.

Kids today are overly exposed to sex and sexuality starting at very young ages. It's on TV shows, it's in the music they listen to, music video's, it's on the street...Kids need to have wholesome balances to the oversexed and overly violent world around them and we have school, home and church that is suppose to be the balance.

Look there is nothing wrong with saying vagina, and all I am saying is that there is a time and a place for everything. The 'Vagina Monologues' is an off Broadway performance. It is adult entertainment. The word Vagina is said at least 1,000 times during the performance, which for adult audiences is fine. Regardless of the body part, whether it is the word vagina, or penis or rectum or nipples, etc. said over an over again in a school environment sends the wrong message.

Yes, everyone knows at this age what each body part is called and what it does, but we are not speaking these words clinically. Let's not make believe that in the performance vagina isn't described in suggestive sexual ways. It is and therefore, doesn't belong in schools.

Therefore, in my opinion, I first blame the school for allowing the performance to begin with and secondly blame the girls for making such a big deal about being suspended for being insubordinate and having lack of better judgment in saying the line they did and including the word vagina, when told not to.

There is a time and place for everything. Let's be responsible and preserve wholesome values for our kids and the institutions they are a part of. If we don't give a crap, believe me, no one else will either. So, let's demand strong morals and values from our schools, our students, ourselves and not give into the multi-billion dollar world of entertainment and music that compromises these wholesome values and takes the innocents away from our children at such young ages.
