Wheat Free Homemade Dog Biscuits

Delicious Natural Treats Your Dog Will Love!

Critter Cozies
The key to making harder dog biscuits is to double-bake them (like biscotti) and then let them cool slowly in the warm oven to dry out. If your dog needs a softer biscuit, simply bake once like regular cookies.

Preheat oven to 350o

Ingredients

2 cups oat flour (you can use whole wheat flour if your dog is not sensitive to wheat)
1/2 cup oatmeal
1/2 cup oatbran
2/3 cup broth (beef, chicken, or vegetable)
6 tablespoons vegetable oil (I use olive oil)
1 egg
3 tablespoons honey
(options: dried parsley (good for "doggie breath", grated cheese, grated carrot, peanut butter... whatever your dog likes!)

Preparation

1. In a large bowl, beat egg. Add oil and honey. Mix well.
2. Add broth.
3. Add dry ingredients and mix well.
4. Roll out dough onto a (oat-) floured board to about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into shapes (you can find dog-bone shaped cutters at kitchen supply stores, but normal cookie cutter shapes will do. Just make sure there are no narrow parts as these will break off.) You can also just cut the dough into squares or diamonds, or form into circles like human cookies!
5. Bake in a preheated 350o oven for about 20 minutes.
6. Take cookies out; let cool on tray for about 10 minutes. Carefully turn over, and return to oven.
7. Bake for a further 10 minutes.
8. Turn off oven. Leave biscuits in the oven; let cool/dry out overnight.

These biscuits freeze well. They should be kept in the fridge or freezer as they contain meat products.

I hope your dog enjoys these treats!

This is great! Not only are both my mother and I gluten intolerant, but her little Shih Tzi isn't supposed to have wheat either. These are treats we can make her ourselves without dire consequences =D

Can't have a dog due to allergies but I know several people I can pass this on to.

Great ideas for your dogs. Thanks for sharing. I had a pitbull who was allergic to everything we could find nothing he could eat but it was meat/protein products not grains. Sad story I tell you.

Nice recipe and a great alternative to store-bought treats!
