Wheeling, West Virginia's Oktoberfest at Oglebay Park Resort

Oglebay Park in Wheeling, West Virginia, is a friendly and relaxing place to visit. The Mansion Museum is a favorite tour any time of year, and 1,700 acres host the park picnic areas and a 'Good Zoo' for youngsters and adults alike with 30 acres of animals and a mile and a half train ride. There is also a small Omni Max type theater with high thrills and action packed films.

This October, the Wheeling Park Commission will host the32nd annual Oglebayfest, a local Oktoberfest.

There will be many events scheduled for your entertainment.

German Traditions

Traditional, authentic German foods will be served at one of the park's shelters. There will be ethnic German dancing and a German band.

Flower Gardens

Oglebay always boasts beautiful flower gardens. This autumn is no exception. There will be a spectacular mum display in full bloom in time for the event.

Venues

At the Artist's Market, 100 crafters will exhibit their wares near the Mansion Museum.

More than a dozen West Virginia gourmet food producers will be present at the Harvest Market.

On Saturday morning there is a parade and on Saturday evening there will be fireworks.

Wilson Lodge will host music form several bands all three days.

The Ohio County Fair

The Ohio County Fair will be on the Oglebay grounds this weekend also.

There will be fruits and vegetables, canned goods, baked goods, needlework, quilts, eggs, flower arrangements and 4-H exhibits. Agriculture related contests will include cooking competitions and weaving and blacksmithing demonstrations.

You may wish to book early to stay at Oglebay's Wilson Lodge for the festival. Call 800-624-6988.

Wilson Lodge boasts 271 rooms, dining facilities, an indoor pool, a Jacuzzi, a sauna, wireless internet, and a spa.

There are also cottages available for larger groups.

Oglebay's other amenities

There are two golf courses: an 18-hole regulation Golf Course, and an 18-hole Par III course and driving range.

Horse stables offer trail rides and lessons.

In addition, there are pedal boating, miniature golf, fishing, and miles of paved walking/jogging trails.

Brick walking paths bring into view magnificent gardens.
