When Children Become the Parents

Why so Many Children Are Taking on Their Parents' Responsibilities in This Day and Age?

Your parents are the staple and center of your life during those crucial years of your upbringing and they shape and direct your life in some way or another. As the generations change more and more late adolescent and older adult children are stepping into the role of breadwinner because of them having to support their parent(s). Classic example of children who had to become the parent when they were not at an age to take on such a responsibility are actors Corey Feldman,Macaulay Culkin, Lindsay Lohan, Gary Coleman, Britney Spears, and Dominique Marceanu. These stars are prime examples of known child stars that had to take on the role of breadwinner while their parents benefited from their earnings that's supposedly safe in a trust fun until they
reached of age to take hold of the money.

Culkin had to saddle being the sole breadwinner because clearly his parents were not responsible adults to support themselves and not live off their son's earnings which was placed into a trust fund until he
turned 18. Corey Feldman had the same issue supporting his parents to where he was the sole breadwinner and as a result of that Feldman later took his parents to court and requested to be granted status as an
emancipated minor so that he could be in charge of his own finances and business affairs.

If children are having to support their parents then is it fair that a child should impose that their parent(s) adopt a reasonable lifestyle to where it's not taxing out the income of the household? Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears are two other stars who have stepped into the role of being the parent since they too are supporting their mothers who are living opulent and lavish lifestyles all thanks to their famous daughters. Lynne Spears lives in a 5 bedroom mansion in Louisiana that's called Serenity Springs all paid for by her daughter Britney and Dina Lohan is living a comfortable lifestyle in Long Island, NY all thanks to her daughter Lindsay. Neither mothers have any concept about living a modest lifestyle to say the least because both have been spotted shopping at high end stores with their daughters.

The parents should however be capable of earning their own money and to prove that they're able to be responsible parents and adults. Olympic gymnast Dominique Marceanu was too a child that became the parent
because she had earned over a million dollars during the course of her athletic career only to have it squandered by her father when he built a gymnastics facility as a business for himself at her expense. She
later sued him for misappropriating her money and other bad business decisions which resulted in the loss of her earnings. It's sad that many child stars have no financial security because the very people who raised them are also the very people who are helping themselves to their money and not thinking about their child's future once they get out of the business.

Yet this is a growing problem for the late adolescent and adult children of today because they're having to take on more responsibility in things due to their parents inability to handle it themselves. You're seeing a lot of older children having to move back home to help their parents financially when some of them lose their income for whatever reason. It's like a lot of adult children who are just getting their feet wet in life are now having to take on responsibilities that are not theirs to handle. Many are having to put off their needs and goals to help their parents out and in so many words it's not fair that a child or children have to put their lives on hold for their parents once they've moved away and started their own lives.

Children of today don't really have much of a childhood since so many are forced to grow up very fast and to take on a lot of responsibilities that many are not ready for, but sometimes have no choice to do so if a household is in dire need of someone to run it. The fact that so many are having to take over their parents' responsibilities is often an indication that many parents are not handling their buisness they way they should be doing so their kids are not having to take on something they're not ready for.
