When Did I Grow Old?

M.S.Medina

When did I get old? It makes me want to fret.
Is this someone's idea of a joke,
or did I loose a bet?

It seemed to occur so fast
I didn't see it happen.
Will these wrinkles go away,
or will they last and last?

My bones they hurt and groan and creak.
My hair has lost it's shine.
My memory fleets in and out
for younger days I pine.

My Honey calls me beautiful.
I guess I am to him.
Then and again his teeth fell out
and his eyes, when did they dim?

I saw my face in a mirror one day.
I didn't recognize it.
I guess I have been growning old,
and there is no way to hide it

So I will wear age proudly
My spirit you will see.
My Honey thinks I'm beautiful
and I know he can't see.

Together we will pass the time.
We will reminesce.
We can not see, nor hear, nor think,
and ignorance is bliss.

You nailed it on the head - and what a pleasure to "meet" Jacques wife, I had been enjoying his work and didn't know you were here. :-) Looks like you're doing very well too.

After youth has technically passed, aging seems so subtle, yet lightening fast.

I looked in the mirror the other day and couldn't believe the old woman who looked back it me. I pretty much thought the things you wrote.

HAHAHAHA I love the picture you used. It is terrific. I also loved the poem very much. Good Job.

Boy, can I relate! Will be 57 in a few weeks -- in my head I'm not a day over 45. I do a good job of staying deeply in denial!! :>)

A cute reminder of things to come.

Old? Who's old? When I find my walker I'll knock you over the head with my cane. Seriously, this was a gentle reminder that even when we don't notice it, age creeps up on you.
