However, many times we discipline them for reasons unrelated to anything except for our own personal issues, while others times we discipline them for things related to others. When should we discipline our children? When should we show them what isn't right? There are three main reasons, which are as follows:
If They Are Harmful to Others
The first main reason when we should discipline our children is when they are harmful to others. Children must be taught to love and respect their neighbors. If the child is not taught these simple things, then the child may grow up with the habit of being harmful or disrespected to others without remorse. This is why it is important to discipline our children at a young age, so that they know what isn't right. You don't want a child walking up with a knife trying to stab someone because of what they've seen on television. Nor do you want a child calling people insulting names out in public just because they heard someone else do it. By disciplining them during these times, it will help prepare them for the real world when they get older: when people no longer ignore your actions because of your age.
If They Are Harmful to Themselves
Another time we should discipline our children is when they are harmful to their selves. If one child has a spoon and is attempting to put it into an electrical socket, you don't want to 'let the child be'. You want to help the child learn that it is wrong to avoid him or her from making harmful and unintended mistakes in the future. This is goes with teaching what things they should eat and not eat and the places they should be careful when going.
When They Are Very Young
Everyone is a child to someone or something. There comes a limit time when telling your kids what not to do would only be wasting your time. If you are 30 years old, would you want your mother and father telling you how to live your life? The answer is that you are already old enough to know and understand and make your own choices. However, with very young children they are still growing and need parental consent to direct them in their development and independent maturity. But when we attempt to do it when they're too old, then that will only result in mistakes. Therefore, discipline your children when they're very young, don't expect it is the same when they're older.
