You may be asking when does winter begin in 2011? Good question. The first day of winter is coming soon. Sooner than you think. Here is an article all about it.
When does winter begin in 2011? The first day of winter is on December 22, 2011. That day is a Thursday. One day after Hanukkah. A few days before Christmas and Kwanza. Good thing winter will be arriving before Christmas. It is only fitting and proper. Many will enjoy a white Christmas and bless them. I live deep in South Georgia, so I may not be one of them. Though, in the past, we have actually had snowy winter days. Just not usually on Christmas. Go figure. Although, if you live near Atlanta, which I don't, you most likely will see lovely snow this Christmas. Around, before, after, here and there. You know how that goes. No one really knows. Except maybe Santa and he ain't telling. Hehe.
Winter is already in full swing here in Georgia. We have had two freezing mornings, so far. Thirties and chilly. This always happens here. Before Thanksgiving. Then, we get hit with a warm spell. Most likely, Thanksgiving will be seventy to eighty ish and warm. Forget wearing those cool winter holiday sweaters and trendy fur boots. Folks will laugh at you if you do. Also, you will sweat. No one wants that. Yes, seems a heat wave comes in here, during Thanksgiving and many times, on Christmas. That is so all can laugh at us. Trying to have a merry Christmas and sweating. Oh, well. Pray for the poor Southern santa who has to dress up in fur coat, boots and hat and tolerate warm weather. Ho Ho Whew.
Have you ever had warm egg nog? Eww. Never mind. Egg nog popsicles for all. Frozen fruit cake is a southern treat. On a stick. Yes, I am kidding. Sort of. And, boy, do those reindeer shed...lol. They leave Georgia almost bald. It's bad. At least santa wraps cute red and green sweat bands around their heads. And he is festively dressed in bright red Bermuda shorts. And black flip flops, of course.
So, be ready for the first day of winter in 2011. It comes on December 22. Happy holidays. May you have a splendid winter. Pass the peppermint ice cream, another South Georgia dessert favorite. Put mine on top of a big ole piece of pecan pie. Don't forget the iced chocolate coffee. Seasons greetings. Warm wishes and a merry Christmas.

Post a CommentThanks. My calendar isn't showing the first day of winter. We had a few snowflakes here yesterday. I guess that doesn't count, but it sure felt like it did.
That was a good one.
Well done.
Thanks for the reminder, Bridgitte. I was hoping winter would stay away a bit longer... like a few more years. *sigh*
I usually consider the first snowfall as the beginning of winter, but we got a blizzard in October so eh...
:)
Thank you Bridgitte:0)
