When Do Dog Days Really Begin?

Contemporary Theory about Dog Days -- July 3 through August 11

Madeline Teagle, a cosmologist and New Age Minister, always maintained that Dog Days signaled earthly visits from outer space entities. Inhabitants of the Dog Star, Sirius, considered malicious and wicked, wreak havoc whenever they can. Madeline has passed on, but her teachings leave a wonderment that leads to enchantment with the stars, especially the Dog Star and the Sirius constellation.

According to her description, the mean spirited visitors always created as much interpersonal conflict among earthlings as possible. During the stagnant, hot summer days, these unwelcome visitors add to the discomfort of the extreme heat with their malevolent activities.

The star, Canis (the greater dog), is the second closest visible star to the planet earth. Twinkling blue in the night, the symbolism is alive to this day,

Many people believe that August is the month of Dog Days -- but the Dog Star Sirius appears during the first week of July. The mythology behind this constellation that appears at various sequences around the world tells of fertility and the overflow of the Nile River in Egypt.

But is Dog Days nothing more than a myth?

Orionids meteor showers usually give us a show through the months of July and early August. Orionids is part of the Sirius constellation in which the dog imagery is instilled. Hence the dog days named after the Dog Star, Canis, which is part of the grouping. Lately these were studied by NASA, and some initial interesting observations are fodder for additional study. Minerals mined for study from this constellation reveal minerals that are identical to minerals found on Earth.

According to Webster dictionary, Dog Days is defined as a period between early July and September, but the whole story is infinitely more colorful.

Isis and Virgo are believed to be the same mythological figureheads evolved in time from mythology and incorporated into the tenets of ancient Catholicism. A recent History Channel feature investigated various conjectures insofar as the enigmatic brotherhood of the Freemasons because of the icons and imagery of Virgo that show up throughout the design of D.C.

In any event, according to the History Channel, there are 53 places in D.C. that display the astrological sign of Virgo throughout the major monuments. These are purported to be in relative positions that indicate a relationship to the constellation of Virgo.

There is also a belief that dogs are affected by this time of year, and our canine friends may act differently during this period.

At the end of Dog Days, there is always a fog that appears early in the morning. It is said that the malevolent entities are creating a guise for their departure.
