Something changes someplace you can't see.
Her head meets the sun, defiant,
Silken iron settles in her spine,
And her secrets shine through glossy smiles,
As she contemplates the goldmine she's been sitting on.
When she realizes
That teaparties and cabbage patches
Don't give or need any nourishment;
When she sees
The peace her touch, her voice, her scent
Can bring;
When she feels
The power a goddess knows
Over her children's souls;
And watches her garden grow
To feed their bellies
With flesh she cuts in strips
From her woman's heart that must somehow keep beating;
She knows.
