When being on any social network site, you need to learn when to keep your mouth shut. In this case, don't let your fingers override your brain when typing out anything that comes to mind.
The most recent foot in the mouth post came from a mom who let her fingers do the talking and cost her sons team their three game wins. She posted that her family didn't live in the county or district her sons transferred into, but she worked in the county and thought it was okay for her sons to transfer schools in a different county of residence.
Anthony Wiener is the most notable of all these people who let their fingers overrun their brains. Wiener tweeted pictures of himself with just his boxers on to a female on his followers list. Not the smartest move for a congressman to make while in office. He wasn't about to let this get the best of him while he tried to hold onto his seat in Congress, but Congress had a different idea and sent him packing.
Larry Johnson made tweets to his followers that lost his job as a running back for the Kansas City Chiefs after posts he made about his coach and slurs at a fan. Fans decided his off color remarks weren't what the team needed and petitioned for his release from the team. With 32,000 fans going after Johnson for his remarks with their petition, the Chiefs released him from his contract in 2009.
Even a pizza delivery driver wasn't safe from letting his fingers doing the talking. Tim who delivered pizzas for CPK over a menu item was fired. However, he didn't let his firing get him down, he later created a YouTube video about his firing that went viral. Even losing his job due to his tweet, Tim still found humor in it, but without a paycheck how is his viral video going to pay the bills?
Even with the four mentioned above, they aren't the only ones who thought using social media to say or show anything they like was the way to go. Bad judgement was used in all cases and employers and school districts do see what's happening online whether you think so or not.
Before saying something online about your school district, job, items on the menu, posting pics, and a slew of other things, would you say that to a person's face? If not, keep your fingers to yourself and don't post online anything that could land you in hot water.
