When the Honeymoon is Over

Maggie O'Cala
Often, there is a lot of planning that goes into a wedding and the honeymoon. Some couples may save for years, in order to have their "perfect" day and the chance to spend their honeymoon someplace wonderful. Details are fretted over, dresses are tried and discarded, members of the wedding party are carefully thought out and nerves are stretched to the limit.

When the honeymoon has ended and the two of you settle in to your new life, don't be surprised if you feel a bit let down. After months of saving and planning, your special day has come and gone. Now, you are left with the sometimes mundane "real life". This is somewhat similar to the way we feel the day after Christmas.

Real life is not a fairy tale where bluebirds sing cheerfully in the mornings and a gentle deer greets you at the window. While you may be disappointed that your magical daydreams have lost their luster, try not to become too concerned yet.

Real life is filled with duties, obligations, work, chores, sweeping, doing laundry and shopping for groceries. However, that does not have to mean that the magic is gone. The two of you can still be romantic, spontaneous and silly.

Adjusting to married life can be a bit overwhelming at times, and frustrating at others. But it is important not to give up hope. After some time has passed and the two of you get a routine going, life becomes much easier. The "magic" of sharing your life with someone you love is much better than the initial magic of dating.

I agree. I've been sharing that magic for 35 years!
