When Liberals Attack: The Nazi Mall

Victor Medina
People will do just about anything to make money, but it's nice to know that in a North Carolina mall, liberals are putting principle over money. They are also acting like mall-Nazis, but let's not split hairs.

In spring 2009, a kiosk inside the Concord Mills Mall in Concord, NC was asked to either remove "offensive" material or vacate the premises. Among the "offensive" material was a baby bib that says "My parents chose life" and bumper stickers critical of the Obama administration ("Obama: Change Al Qaeda Can Believe In" and "Impeach Obama"). Kiosk owner Loren Spivak claims to have had a great working relationship with local mall management, but trouble brewed when regional and national management became involved.

Initially, Spivak was told he could keep his kiosk if he removed some of the "offensive" items. When he refused, a regional manager told him his contract with the mall would not be renewed. It should be noted that Concord Mills is owned by Simon Malls, whose owner, Mel Simon, contributes millions to the Democratic party and Barack Obama.

For its part, Simon Malls says that they have a right to remove a retail tenant they find is selling offensive material. However, the same mall hosts a Spencer's Gifts, which sells cool gifts, but they also sell t-shirts that say "I Eat P**** Like a Fat Kid Eats Cake" and "I Know I'm A F****** Cutie." You can also pick up a bottle of B****-B-Gone Anti-PMS Pills (who doesn't need those) or shirts and banners featuring marijuana leaves. It seems Simon Malls has the sense of humor to allow Spencer's to sell these (and rightfully so) and allow Victoria's Secret picture displays featuring scantily-clad hotties and bookstores full of pro-Obama books, yet get their left-shifting shorts in a bunch over bumper stickers and baby bibs. Really, Mel Simon? I think Spencer's has some pills for you.

A list of Simon Malls nationwide is available at SimonMalls.com.

I've been on a 6-week break from internet writing...sorry I'm late. This is unbelievable. Thanks for giving it light. Ditto Cheryl.
