San Francisco has surprised the league beating Arizona and Seattle in back to back weeks (both 1-1). Mike Singletary has stepped up and made this young defense play with fire. The offense has been sufficient to lead the 49ers to two wins. This week, the 49ers travel to Minnesota (2-0) to take on their toughest challenge to date. While chances of a W in Minnesota are slim, should they somehow get by the Vikings, they have an easier matchup hosting St. Louis (0-2) before Atlanta (2-0) comes to town. The 49ers will fall from the unbeatens this weekend, but in a weak NFC west, they are off to a great start to win the division.
New York Jets started off with impressive wins over Houston and then shocked the world by beating New England on Sunday. However, this week they face a tough and angry Titans team that wants to prove that they are not as bad as their 0-2 start appears. If they somehow survive that battle, they will travel to New Orleans for a showdown of unbeatens. The Jets have been impressive, but they will likely leave the ranks of the unbeatens Sunday when the Titans get their first win of the season.
Atlanta started off with Miami, a team that is now 0-2 and looks little like the team that won the AFC East last season. The next week they beat a Panthers team whom the Eagles beat up in week one by 8 points. Their opponents so far are 0-4. Their upcoming games are against 1-1 New England and after a bye week they will face currently unbeaten San Francisco before meeting very tough teams from Chicago and then at Dallas. This makes their upcoming schedule very tough. The team has played well with their offense doing well and a young defense that has looked good. Don't expect the streak to continue next week with New England looking to rebound from a tough loss to the Jets.
Denver began by beating the state of Ohio in back to back weeks. Cincinnati and Cleveland combined for 1 win in the first two weeks. They travel to Oakland new week before starting a brutal 3 week stretch hosting Dallas and New England before traveling to Sand Diego. While the Oakland game is winnable, they won't survive the next three weeks. The Broncos will probably get their L in week 4.
Baltimore beat 0-2 Kansas City before traveling to San Diego and edging the 1-1 Chargers. Their upcoming schedule includes 0-2 Cleveland in week 3 and 1-1 Cincinnati in week 5. However, they have tough matchups with New England in week 4 and Minnesota in week 6 before heading into a bye week. If the Ravens make it to the bye week without a loss, they should win their next three easily before heading into a gauntlet of Pittsburgh (twice), Indianapolis, Green Bay, and Chicago, with only one easy win (Detroit) over the next 6 weeks. In the end, I don't think they make it to the bye as New England and Minnesota with Cincinnati sandwiched between is a lot to handle.
Minnesota beat two of the worst teams in the NFL (Cleveland and Detroit who are each 0-2). They won each game by two touchdowns. However, the next two weeks they host unbeaten San Francisco and (1-1) Green Bay. After that they travel to St. Louis for an easy win and then they face Baltimore, Pittsburgh, and Green Bay again before their Bye week. However, hosting the Packers in week 4 for their first meeting since they signed former Packer Brett Favre, Green Bay may win this grudge match and the Vikings would have their first loss of the season.
Indianapolis have beaten two teams who combined for no wins thus far, hosting Jacksonville and traveling to Miami. Sunday night they will face defending NFC Champion Arizona (1-1) before hosting Seattle (1-1). These are both winnable games before heading to Tennessee to face a Titans team who lost its first two games. If they can knock off Tennessee, they will have a bye week before heading to St. Louis. The Colts offense has not been a juggernaut, but they have have passed for over 300 yards in back to back weeks. With close wins over Jacksonville and Miami, this team doesn't seem as good as the Colts of the past, but they still get it done when it counts. In the end, they will fall in week 5 when Tennessee finds the team who started 13-0 last year.
New Orleans has destroyed Detroit (0-2) and Philadelphia (1-1) in consecutive weeks. Their defense appears to be better than last year and their offense has scored nearly 100 points in only two weeks. They next travel to Buffalo (1-1) and then host the Jets (2-0), both games that are easily winnable. After their bye week (week 5), they will face the Giants in a game where their offense will face a great defense and will sputter just enough that the Saints will lose their first game of the season in week 6.
New York Giants have beat two teams that are now 1-1. Both of these teams had winning records last season, and though the Giants have won by less that a touchdown in each contest, their schedule has been tough. Their upcoming schedule looks very good as they will face Tampa Bay and Kansas City on consecutive weeks before hosting Oakland in week 5. These teams are a combined 1-5 with the only victory coming because two of these lightweights faced each other. Their next tough matchup doesn't occur until they face current unbeaten New Orleans in week 6. The Giants offense has surprised teams by having a lot of success through the air, despite their lack of a big name receiver. The Giants defense has been impressive at times, but they have surrendered 48 points. They will only get better. Look for the Giants to hold their steak well into October. But with tough matchups at New Orleans, hosting Arizona, traveling to Philadelphia, and then hosting San Diego, the Giants will probably stumble in mid-late October.
In the end, after week 3 some unbeatens may fall, but by the end of October, there will be little challenge to the Dolphins perfect season from years gone by.

Post a CommentI wouldn't be surprised if Mike Singletary can coach the 49ers over Brad Childress led Vikings. Should never happen, but it could. That Titans and Jets game is gonna be interesting. Good job.
