When Nature Turns Against Us

Lisa Stanley
In the night the rains came down and in sleep the child was taken.
Her mother tried to save her life, but she could not save her own.
The horror her mother must have felt in the last moments of life,
found gripping a flashlight nearby her child,
not even touching her in death.
Grandmother ran and hid in a closet to seek safety.
No doubt the mother was reaching to get her child, so they could be safe together.
There was no safety to be sought,
for their home was a flying death trap
Picked up by the violent 160 plus mile winds,
crashing down 100 feet away
Their lives destroyed, scattered about,
nearly nothing left to save
The mother and daughter and grandmother were lost in the night
Bitter evidence of when nature turns against us.
