When I Save Someone in My Cell Phone

QUICHE
People always ask "Why don't you carry a cell phone"? "Aren't you worried that something may happen and you don't have a way to get in touch with someone?" I usually just shrug my shoulders and on a good day I may give the response "No need for one, I'll take my chances." Cell phones and I used to be great acquaintances at one point, but over the years they've become more of a mortal enemy. Text messaging, picture messages, email access, and all the cool ring tones are all fine and good; living vicariously through others is fine with me.

A cell phone has been the root of all evil when it came to my relationships

I can picture you sitting there with a strange look on your face, wondering what I'm talking about. Let me give you a little bit of history between me and these horrid little devices. Six years ago I met Mark hew was a wonderful man tall, dark and very handsome. He worked for the railroad making great money and he was generous when it came to it. After dating for about a month I decided to same him on my contacts list and the next day he told me he was moving to California, which is nowhere near Florida. I never heard from him again, and whether or not he lied about moving I'll never know.

Charles was a really sweet person, but a little too sensitive at times; he stuck around just a little while longer. Since I'm not really big on dealing with my cell phone except for answering the darn thing I usually don't take the time to save numbers in it. After dating for about three months I finally got around to saving his number and two days later I walked in on him and his roommate Bobby. I will not take the time to give you a play by play of what I saw, but suffice it to say that they weren't sitting around playing video games. Why in the hell would he give me a key to his place? No need to really say it, but that was the end of us. After him I must admit I had took a brief hiatus from dating anyone else.

Michael was an aspiring writer, he had published quite a few articles even winning awards for quite a few of them. He had his own place, car, but his writing assignments were few and far between. He was really trying though and that's what counts with me, and when we went out he always paid; my money was no good when it came to us going out. Generally we would stay in and order take out, watch movies, and fall asleep on the couch while embraced in one another's arms. At this time I still hadn't really caught on to the fact that saving someone in my phone was a death wish. Apparently I really liked him because after only three weeks I made it a point to put his number and name in my phone. That same night I get call from Mercy General Hospital saying that my number was the last one dialed on his phone. They called to inform me that he was in a fatal car accident around 11:30 that same night; four hours after I saved him in my phone.

I finally I got a clue or should I say a gut feeling about why my relationships were over before they started off very well. The thought sounded ridiculous to me trust me on this one. A cell phone causing break-ups that's crazy right? But still to this day I refuse to to have one, and of course I've never revealed how I felt about them until now.

One day a friend and I were talking about relationships, and she just said out the blue "it seems like whenever I save someone in my cell phone the relationship falls apart" it was just coincidence of course. I decided to write this story and add a few twists and turns to it, so it would be interesting.
