It's not the ghetto, not by a long shot...but it has it's reputation.
-Anyhow, on Long Island we have the largest amount of Sex Offenders here then we do anywhere else. In my surrounding neighborhood their are approximately 6 sex offenders. All of these sex offenders are within a block to 5 blocks away. It's close, but still I have a string of comfort knowing these sex offenders are not necessarily on my 'actual' block.
The 6 sex offenders though are close enough.
I'm simple minded, and for some reason figured seeing how they are not on my block they won't bother me, they won't see me, and I won't see them. I assumed that being on the sex offenders list would also cause them to become hermit like people. You know, they kind that never leave their home.
I mean hell, they are sex offenders, odds are they NEVER leave their home in fear of someone saying something or doing something to them.
My sister lives 2 blocks away from me. There is one sex offender that lives a block away from her. His crime...high risk level 5, raping a 17 year old girl.
2 sex offenders live a block over, 2 sex offenders on one block! Their crimes, level 3. Moderate risks, raping young women... relation to these women...strangers.
The other sex offenders are scattered a few blocks from there, these guys were on the list for raping and molesting young boys.
We get the fliers in the mail on a weekly basis, the list grows and grows... but I have never actually feared any of it. It disgusted me, pissed me off, and make me want to kill them...yet it was never the topic of dinner conversation.
We would discuss new flyer's we got in the mail with my sister only because she has kids...but as an adult, I figured I had nothing to worry about. So long as my sister kept a close eye on the kids we were okay. Right?
Wrong... Sex offenders do in fact leave their homes. However for the first time in my life this past week I have felt a pang of fear due to one sex offenders actions in particular.
I never ever in my life thought that I would personally be affected, or my family...yet here is my story.
My sister and I were getting into her car in her drive way when an older man drove up on his bike, and said 'hi'.
Because I thought that this man was my sisters neighbor, I said hi back. He then proceeded to ask me how my day was, and how I was...
The whole time he had this nasty perverted smile on his greasy face.
That was when I began to feel uncomfortable; the smile, and the fact that my sister was eye balling him as if she had no clue who he was, why he was here, and what he wanted.
Was this guy mentally challenged? Did my sister not like this neighbor? Did my sister not know this guy?!
After I began ignoring him he sat there just staring like a goddamn whack-uh-doo. He then got back on his bike and continued driving down the block.
As if he couldn't get any weirder, he kept turning his head back, and grinning like some sort of sick weird pervert.
"What the hell was his problem?" Asked my sister.
"What do you mean? I thought he was your neighbor!"
"I have never seen that freak in my life, what a f-ing weirdo."
"Uch, I thought you knew him, otherwise I never would of said hi back to him."
"Ew, that's just weird! I don't like that." She adds.
Anyhow we went about our business, and the weirdo on the bike didn't cross our minds till just the other day when my sister called me on the phone to tell me that her neighbor directly across the street warned her about the weirdo on the bike.
The neighbor told her to watch herself, and watch her kids around the short weird bald guy on the bike that slowly drives by every now and then.
The moment the neighbor said that it got my sisters attention immediately. She told him how the guy fitting the same description he was mentioning stopped in her yard the other day to start a conversation.
The neighbor then told my sister that he is on the sex offenders list, a high risk level 5 sex offender.
After my sister told me that my head felt like it was spinning.
I immediately signed online to check the list of sex offenders in our surrounding neighborhood. We were already aware of the high risk level 5 sex offender that lived close to her house, but we never thought in a million years we'd come face to face with the sick bastard.
I checked the google map sex offenders list. Here they also display photos of the sex offenders to watch out for.
I clicked on the red marker on the map that matched where this guy would of come from. As the picture loaded up on the computer, I nearly threw up.
There he was. He was guilty of raping a 17 year old girl while using a blunt object to beat her, and having sexual contact with a girl younger than 12. They did not give out any further details on his crimes...but what I saw shocked me.
Why is this man free? Why is this man not in jail?
Then I began to feel really sick knowing that this man is a potential threat, and that his odd behavior he displayed the other day towards me told me that this nasty pig was not shy. Not shy at all!
His behavior basically screams 'I'm gaining the confidence to do it again...and why you, you lil' miss, you're cute.'
You see I'm 25; however I have the face and build of a teen-aged girl. I'm blessed with the fountain of youth type genes...and at the same time cursed, because no one takes me seriously.
Am I a potential target to this scum piece of crap? Why did he stop and try to talk to me... was he interested in me, or is the piece of crap eye balling my 5 year old niece up?
I began to think about my rights, and his rights... he has no rights in my book. This bastard deserves to have his eyeballs poked out, because it is my belief that he is prowling the streets on his bike, he s watching, he is waiting, learning schedules...he may pose no threat now in the eyes of the law, but his brave behavior tells me otherwise.
Can the police do anything? Do I call the police and tell them that a high risk sex offender is displaying strange behavior....
When they ask me why; I tell them he started a conversation with me.
They may laugh at me? But shouldn't people know? Shouldn't people know when a sex offender is prowling about and stopping at homes of women who are in their front yards to have conversations with them; uninvited; glaring at them with his eyes, and smiling at them like some sick dog in heat?
My sister tells me she sees him riding by often now, where before she had never seen him before.
I fear for them, and I honestly want this sick pervert gone. The whole world could do without.
My warning to all:
Learn where sex offenders are. Print up photos of them that you find online, and post them on your fridge. Remember them, that photo may be that weird guy who rides his bike slowly by your house every now and then.
Everyone gets these flyers, but many of us just throw them away. Keep them, and spread the word to neighbors with children and teens.

Post a CommentThat's the scary part. The ones who have never been caught, you never know where the hell they lurk. Its scary. I always make it a point to never park my car in unoccupied lots, and that whole thing about never walking by a van. I will make it a point not to walk by one.
Learning their residential addresses are little comfort. They are free to go wherever they please. There are none in my neighborhood in a town of 115,000. That doesn't mean the guy outside helping my neighbor work on his car is not one. They are free to visit family, friends, co-workers, shop in our stores and we do not know they are sex offenders. You are bumping elbows with these creeps at restaurants and Wal-mart. You must watch everyone around you and always use safety precautions. Many sex offenders have never been caught.
There are three in my neighborhood. I never see them. I think they do hide once they get their mug shots posted at the meagan's law web site.
i FOUND A Few different sites that allows me to locate them. The google map one is supposed to be the best, but for some reason it does not work when I hit the page, dead link for the google map one. Ive seen this family watch dog one. This is probably the best one... I wish I could get on the google one, because this is where regular ppl post where offenders are.
Great article. Here's a link (unless I missed it in your content) http://www.familywatchdog.us/ to check to see if there are any sex offenders in your area. Dave
