When Singing High Notes

Some Singing Dont's

Mario Lat
. . . don't look up.

One gross mistake many singers do is just that. They look up as if they can pick the right (high) notes

. . . don't bend your neck.

Due to lack of proper training, we tend to acquire this faulty (singing) habit. I see novice singers do this. They bend their necks instinctively as if to "reach-that-note-no-matter-what". But when you do that, your air passage narrows. Again, you punish your vocal chords. The idea is to keep a wide room for your voice all throughout the song; done through proper alignment.

. . . don't let the neck muscles tense under pressure.

We see many singers commit this blunder. Sadly, many singers today do not observe proper singing techniques, or simply do not know how to. You see their neck veins stressfully bulge as if to burst through the skin.

Hi! I have been a choir director for over two decades now. I guess I have found that that is my calling. Currently, I have three choirs.  View profile

For some reason, a large part of this post didn't make it in this page, some 60% of it. Anyway,I will post a very similar article to send my (missing) points across. Thanks for reading anyway.
