The appearance of a small pimple on your face grabs all your attention. Then your next step includes the purchase of a medicine that is highly advertised on the web or on TV, without any medical prescription of course. But when nothing works and things seem to go out of your hand, and your face is full of scars and acne, you decide to pay a visit to a doctor.

This is a typial scenario for any acne sufferer. Your family doctor may help with your acne, if you consult him at initial stages. But if you have developed acute acne, then it is time for you to visit a dermatologist to undergo a precise medication. Also, self realization is another consideration. As you are getting disturbed day by day with your acne especially when your face is covered with large and painful pimples and you start developing scars. If you ignore them, these pimples will turn into dark patches. The shade of your skin darkens and you get stressed on seeing your face in the mirror.

Broadly, the medication of acne follows two procedures. One is the application of some ointments or gels on the skin, and the other includes the consumption of medicines or drugs in order to root out the cause of acne. Mainly, the acne is caused due to the augmentation of sebum. As a result, the sebaceous glands contract and multiply the growth of acne bacterium.

Initial treatment of acne comprises of direct application of some gels or creams on your face. The creams contain azelaic acid or benzoyl peroxide and provide good results in the cases of minor acne to the less severe ones. With the prescribed usage of such creams, the contraction of sebaceous glands is inhibited and the development of the bacteria of acne is prevented.

Mostly, acne is treated with the medicine which is a combination of benzoyl peroxide and some advanced antibiotic like clindamycin. Sometimes, only advanced antibiotic like tetracycline is administered to the patient.

For the treatment of acne with whiteheads or black heads or the people who experience itching with acne, adapalene is administered. Adapalene is recommended to women who are following some efficient methods of contraception. Adapalene is strictly prohibited during pregnancy. Directions of usage and prohibitions are the same for topical tretinoin (Retin-A) and isotretinoin (Isotrex gel).

People under "systemic treatment" have to undergo oral medication. You must be surprised by the fact that women who are using contraceptive medicine with anti-androgens are at advantage for their acute acne problem.
