When is Thanksgiving Day? Happy Thanksgiving Day is always the fourth Thursday in November in the United States. Congress declared the date of Thanksgiving to be celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November in 1941. Before 1941 Thanksgiving was usually celebrated on the last Thursday in November. George Washington, the first President of the United States, made Thanksgiving Day a National Holiday in 1789 in what is known as the National Thanksgiving Proclamation. The first Thanksgiving is believed to have taken place in 1621 when the pilgrims gathered together to give thanks and eat. In Canada Thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday in October.

Happy Thanksgiving Day is a fun time for family and friends to gather together to give thanks for their blessings. School children usually have two or three days off for Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving Day is a great time for a family reunion. Families gather together, talk, eat, watch sports, watch movies, play games, and do unique family activities. Thanksgiving traditions vary among families.

The traditional Thanksgiving Day dinner includes turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, potatoes, gravy, bread rolls, and pie. Pies often include pumpkin pie, apple pie, and pecan pie. Thanksgiving Day is often referred to as Turkey Day. Most families have a large feast and plenty of leftovers for the meal the next day. Side dishes are often plentiful. Thanksgiving meal preparation has become easier with precooked turkeys, frozen bread rolls, take and bake pies, and warm and serve side dishes. Thanksgiving recipes are plentiful on the internet.
