A new range can cost anywhere from $200 upwars into the thousands depending on the make, model and style. If you do not have the money to shell out on a new one or even if you do, before tossing the old one out, check to see if it can be salvaged. Sometimes it's simply a matter of changing out a part or replacing a faulty wire. You might be made of money, but if you are like the majority of Americans, you're trying to keep the money you have and spend as wisely as possible. No longer can we afford to just toss out the problem items for new ones. In these hard times, it's wise to spend as little as possible and salvage everything you can. Save, repair and refurbish are the terms of the century.
Has Your Oven Stopped Baking
Check your lower and upper baking elements. Sometimes baking elements burn out, burn through or simply stop heating as they should. That's why manufacturers have replacement parts stocked or why there are businesses operating for the sole purpose of providing appliance parts. Ranges and any items made by man can have faulty parts or the parts can wear out. Similar to a car. When our car needs service or a part needs replacing, we just take it in to have the maintenance performed. Any form of technology; a range, small appliance, large appliance, vacuum cleaner, etc., has small and large parts that can be replaced when worn. Simply taking the time to check the problem area or placing a quick call to a parts specialist can save you thousands. One of the best sites providing instructions on replacing baking elements or troubleshooting and correcting oven issues is www.repairclinic.com.
Is The Burner Not Working/Heating
If your burner will not heat properly or maybe your coil or ceramic smooth top is not working you might have to replace the burner element. Now this can be done by someone who has the knack for working with electric or gas appliances or you may have to call an appliance repairman out. However, before requesting an in-home service call, make sure and discuss the cost of the visit plus repair cost with the customer service representative. Sometimes the service cost for the visit in addition to the repair and replacement parts can add up to the price of a new appliance. When this occurs its more reasonable to pay the cost to purchase a new range.
There are times when we may just want a new appliance. If this is the case, it's okay to accept the fact that you would just rather get rid of the old appliance and get a new one. There is no need to justify the purchase. If a new applianc eis what you want, buy it. You've earned the right to purchase a beautiful new appliance. Set the old one at the curb for recycling and get down to your nearest home improvement store and pick out your new range.

Post a CommentI'm hoping to bypass needing to replace the range before we sell and move from this house.
Instead of setting the appliance by the curb people could see if a local charity might use it or offer it on freecycle too.
It's sad to think we have become such a throw-away society. Most things never get fixed any longer, just replaced.
We're thinking of converting to natural gas and our stove would have to be replaced.
for me it was when mine got on fire, and my mother bought me a new stove
good article, thanks!
My 40 year old stove still works! They don't make stoves like they use to!
Good advice....My 20 yr. old stove runs just fine...fingers crossed.
Excellent... :o)
I have a Bosch electric now, but in the new house I'm switching to gas cook top w/electric oven. I don't keep one long enough to break!
