When war came,
Death soon followed
With its partner
Devastation -
Death soon followed
With its partner
Devastation -
"To arms! To arms!"
The nations called,
"Our cause is just!"
Soon the flower
Of the nations
Did respond
To the call -
And the blood
And the treasure
Of the nations
Was consumed
On battlefields
Drenched in blood.
Where the flower
Of the nations
Bled and died -
They gave their lives,
Their last full measure
Of devotion..
To the cause...
When war came...

excellent writing :)
A good reminder of the high price paid for war.
It is hard to even envision life anymore without a war going on somewhere in the world. It is even harder to rationalize that all of these causes are just. rcj
This is wonderful, thanks!
This is most incredible.
Freedom definitely comes with a price.
Very profound, Mike! I remember perhaps the last survivor of WW1, ruminating; what use wars when precious lives are lost and then a peace treaty is signed soon after! We need a better way to setlle our scores! siva
Solemn and true.
