When We Are Old

Gerry Legister
When we are old verses appear abstract,
We treat everyone as a friend,
Trying to be a winner becomes more drastic,
Masquerading dreams play on the mind.

But having food and raiment,
Desire separate important priorities,
When we are old we learn to be content,
Under cover hiding from consequences.

Sensitivity propels us into the next level,
Waking up at dawn to watch the sunrise,
Stretching the fragile sinew over sketchy mile,
The deluxe of pleasure is improvised.

When we are old we travel back in time,
Trembling with the revelry of emotions,
Searching for pride to start youth again,
Delusion challenges the force of our reasons.

We take time to find there is no rush,
In what we can taste, waste, and resist,
With all the changes comes a new wish,
Penitent Journey to where paradise exists.
