1)God Destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah Because of Fornication ,Homosexuality and sexual sins.
Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire." Jude 1:7
And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked." 2nd Peter 2:6,7.
Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. 50 And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good." (Ezekiel 16:49-50)
Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. 23 Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion. 24 Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you: 25 And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants." (Leviticus 18:22-25)
2) God was going to judge the Ninevites because of their wicked behavior but withheld it when they repented.
Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, 2 Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me." (Jonah 1:1-2)
3) God allowed the Canaanites to commit a certain amount of sins before he judged them.
The city and and everything in it must be completely destroyed as an offering to the Lord. Only Rahab the prostitute and the others in her house will be spared, for she protected our spies(Joshua 6:17)
4)Gods anger For defiling Gods Land.
"For My eyes are on all their ways; they are not hidden from My face, nor is their iniquity hidden from My eyes. And first I will repay double for their iniquity and their sin, because they have defiled My land; they have filled My inheritance with the carcasses of their detestable and abominable idols." (Jeremiah 16:17,18)
5) Gods wrath against city for adversity.
"I Myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger and fury and great wrath. I will strike the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast; they shall die of a great pestilence......For I have set My face against this city for adversity and not for good," says the LORD. "It shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire." (Jeremiah 21:5,6,10)
6)Gods anger against all Abomination.
Now the end has come upon you, and I will send My anger against you; I will judge you according to your ways, and I will repay you for all your abominations. My eye will not spare you, nor will I have pity; but I will repay your ways, and your abominations shall be in your midst; then you shall know that I am the LORD!....Now upon you I will soon pour out My fury, and spend My anger upon you; I will judge you according to your ways, and I will repay you for all your abominations. My eye will not spare, nor will I have pity; I will repay you according to your ways, and your abominations will be in your midst. Then you will know that I am the LORD who strikes."( Ezekiel 7:3,4,8,9)
7)God uses heathen peoples to chasten or bring judgment.
"Woe to Assyria, the rod of My anger and the staff in whose hand is My indignation. I will send him against an ungodly nation, and against the people of My wrath I will give him charge, to seize the spoil, to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets." (Isaiah 10:5,6)
"Look among the nations and watch; be utterly astounded! For I will work a work in your days which you would not believe, though it were told you. For indeed I am raising up the Chaldeans, a bitter and hasty nation which marches through the breadth of the earth, to possess dwelling places that are not theirs. They are terrible and dreadful; Their judgment and their dignity proceed from themselves. Their horses also are swifter than leopards, and more fierce than evening wolves. Their chargers charge ahead; their cavalry comes from afar; they fly as the eagle that hastens to eat. They all come for violence; Their faces are set like the east wind. They gather captives like sand. They scoff at kings, and princes are scorned by them. They deride every stronghold, for they heap up mounds of earth and seize it." (Habakkuk 1:5-10)

Post a CommentGod made it very clear that the punishment of sin is death, by using the flood to destroy all life. However after the flood, He promised not to let history repeat itself. Does it mean that man would become sinless that God would never need to bring his wrath on mankind again? Since we know that all men are sinful (Roman 5:13), and that we cannot become righteous through our work, God must have a better plan for us; salvation through Christ.
Excellent job! A lot of Christians seem to have trouble with understanding the wrath and judgment of God. God is indeed merciful which means He doesn't just zap people the first time they get out of line but somewhere down the road there is a limit to what He is going to put up with, even then He brings people to their knees so they can repent, however at some point there is Sodom and Gomorrah. It sort of reminds me of my parents. I didn't know what they might have done if I did certain things, I just knew I didn't want to find out. They weren't mean they just taught me responsibility.
Great reminder of how God deals with unrepentant sin and those who continue to commit sin. I'm also very thankful for God's mercy. one of my favorite verses to partially quote, "For God so loved he gave (Jn 3:16)." Excellent job. God bless...
